Red Ribbon Week: October 26th - 30th
This week is the nation's official Red Ribbon Week, which focuses on preventing drug use in our students. We want to create positive habits for our children - eat healthy, get regular exercise, and stay away from drugs. This year's theme is Be Happy, Be Brave, Be Drug Free. OVCA staff have come up with the below themes for each day. As parents, you are welcome to post pictures or allow your child to post comments on the daily Padlet link provided. You may write your student's first name & last initial as well as grade level on the card but it is not required.
Monday: Be Happy! Click here to share a picture or write what makes you happy.
Tuesday: Be Brave! Wear your favorite superhero costume or clothing item or write about who your favorite superhero is by clicking here.
Wednesday: Be Drug Free! Drugs can impact everyone in your family; spend a few minutes as a family doing something you enjoy.
Thursday: Be Sharp as a Pencil! Click here to share a drawing or coloring page you've created.
Friday: Be Smart as Smarties! Share a picture of where you like to do schoolwork each day OR write about your favorite place to work by clicking here.
When you enter Padlet, you'll see a + sign in the lower right hand corner. Click there to create a sticky note and add what you'd like.
Note: This can be seen by all OVCA families and staff. Content should be kind and respectful.

Additional Learning Resources
Over the past month or so, OVCA has started utilizing several different supplemental resources for elementary students. Our goal is to create a personalized learning path for each student, so expectations for the below resources will differ depending on each student's individual needs. If you have specific questions, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
Exact Path: This is a K-8 online curriculum product that provides standards-based instruction in Reading, Language Arts and Math. The Exact Path learning experience constructs individualized learning paths for students based on results of the included diagnostic assessment and tailors student learning based on their performance throughout the system. Students beginning of year NWEA MAP Skills assessment results were loaded into Exact Path to create an individualized learning path in language arts (Kindergarten & 1st grade), math (2nd - 5th grade), and reading (2nd - 5th grade).
MindPlay: This program is designed to support readers of all levels. Students can work on their phonemic awareness or phonics skills while students at (or above) grade level can continue to work on their reading fluency, which research shows leads to a higher level of reading comprehension. As students begin working in MindPlay, they will take a short assessment to help determine their individual needs. Teachers will provide guidance on how much time should be spent in MindPlay weekly and help find that time. Currently, only our 2nd - 5th grade students have access to MindPlay. We anticipate our Kindergarten & 1st grade students having access in November.
Seesaw Learning: Seesaw Learning provides an opportunity for students to create a digital portfolio of their work for this school year - and beyond. Students can show themselves as well as their teachers what they know and can track progress thru the school year. Each grade level is using this for writing journals and TGAs in the 2nd quarter but many are using it for so much more! If you haven't already, be sure to check out the recording feature within Seesaw. Your child can record themselves reading something they wrote or just from a book they are reading to share with their teacher. All students should have received a log in code from their teacher to access Seesaw Learning.
Bison On Track Calendar
To make sure students know what assignments to complete each day, each grade level team creates a Bison On-Track calendar. This calendar can be found within each grade level newsletter sent out each Friday by the homeroom teacher; I've also included them at the bottom of this week's Mrs. Claggett's Corner for you download if needed. For help on how to use the calendar, please view a video by clicking here.

You will be given the choice to accept or decline each opportunity.
