Superintendent Search - Community Meetings April 21 and April 28
On April 11, the KSD140 Board of Education selected C&H Educational Consultants to help facilitate the search for a new Superintendent. An important part of this search will be the community meetings held from 7:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 21 at Grissom Middle School and Thursday, April 28 at Prairie View Middle School. Please make plans to attend!
If you are unable to attend either the April 21 or April 28 community meeting but would like to offer comments or suggestions, please email C&H Educational Consultants at kirbysupt2022@gmail.com before April 29, 2022.

COVID-19 Reporting and Updates
CHANGE IN STUDENT LUNCHES AND ACCEPTABLE TESTS
- Beginning Monday, April 25, lunches will return to normal with students eating together at lunch tables in the school commons.
- Symptomatic students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, are required to isolate for 5 days (if symptoms are improving, students and staff can return after 5 days, but will be required to wear a well-fitted mask for days 6-10). Staff and students with a negative test can return to school. Acceptable tests include any lab-based or point of care tests, including NAAT, PCR, Antigen, and At-Home tests.
REMINDERS
- School nurse offices are healthcare settings where masks are federally mandated. Masks are required in the nurses’ offices at all times. If needed, disposable masks will be provided to individuals visiting the nurse’s office.
COVID-19 DASHBOARD
- D140's COVID-19 Dashboard provides the community with current districtwide positive COVID-19 case numbers and quarantine information. It is updated each Friday by 10:00 am.

Investing in Our Community
Property values are tied to the strength of a school district. Good public schools equal good home and resale values. By prioritizing the care and maintenance of our facilities, we are investing in our schools, our community, and our future.
NEW SCHOOL
Estimates for retrofitting and modernizing Fernway Park Elementary School's current infrastructure for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, data, and classrooms were approaching the cost of a new school. The Kirby School District 140 Board of Education believes a new building is a better long-term solution. The proposed new school will be built on the western portion of the existing Fernway School property and replace the current Fernway Park School.
Additionally, this design will create a District Early Childhood Center within Fernway, allowing us to centralize services for our preschool-age students and free up classroom space at our other elementary buildings.
NO ADDITIONAL TAX IMPACT
D140 will pay for the Fernway project entirely out of cash reserves. If voters approve this project, it will allow D140 to construct a new school building using money already saved and earmarked for the maintenance and care of our facilities.
VOTE
Illinois law requires D140 to secure voter permission to spend part of our cash reserves to construct a new school building. A referendum will appear on the Tuesday, June 28, 2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election ballot asking for voter permission to construct a new school building on the western portion of the existing Fernway property. The exact question that will appear on the ballot is, “Shall the Board of Education of School District 140, Cook County, Illinois, build one new school building on the Fernway Park School site to replace the Fernway Park School?”
