Classroom Happenings
ELA- Mrs. Wells
Science- Mr. Hayes & Mr. Geringer
In science, students have been getting back into our ideas about chemistry. Wen spent the week looking into ways to prove the conservation of mass, and we also spent some time looking into properties about acids and bases. We will continue our investigations next week as we investigate other reaction types.
Students were also alerted to the fact that they will need to start finding a pack of tissue paper for a project that we use at the end of the unit. A package from the dollar store works fine for this project if you do not have any extra around the house. This will need to be located within the next week or so.
Social Studies- Dr. Rachal
In Dr. Rachal’s class students eased back into school with an all grade meeting on Wednesday with Mr. Hazelton to go over expectations and second semester events. Students learned what goals they are expected to meet in the economics unit, and watched an engaging movie about The Secret Life of Money. We will continue to learn about economic decision making and planning for the future through various activities, including a stock market game, a financial planning game (Banzai),
vocabulary, career exploration and budgeting simulations.
ELA- Mr. Gasparovic
In Mr. Gasparovic’s class, students have gotten back into the swing of school. After a reconvening with class over expectations for the next semester, students were advised to select independent reading novels for the month of January: students are required to read two independent novels per month and report back via the Six Signpost form. In addition, students continued to hone their writing skills with practice and instruction concerning thesis statements, introduction and conclusion paragraphs of a literary essay. On Friday, students visited the library.
Social Studies- Mr. Gasparovic
In Mr. Gasparovic’s class, students have gotten back into the swing of school. After a reconvening with class over expectations for the next semester, students jumped back into learning about the world. This semester we will be covering a unit over Personal Finance and Economics: students have participated in discussions about various areas where money affects their lives, learned about various aspects of money as an introduction, and have been introduced to an online stock market game that they will play in an effort to gain knowledge about how the stock market works.
