THE JAYHAWK BLAST
JHS Bulletin - Volume II, Issue 3, 10/2/2020
A Message From The Co-Principals
Good Afternoon and Happy Friday,
We are happy to release the third issue of the Jayhawk Blast. Last week we hosted our first ever Virtual Back to School Night. Thanks to the great planning of our teachers and the guidance of our students, the night was a great success. Parents and teachers have expressed positive feedback about the experience. Hopefully, you had a chance to attend and learn about each of your child's classes.
In this issue of the Jayhawk Blast you can learn more about the NEST Program, access the Extra Help schedule, learn about upcoming virtual College Rep visits and review the deadlines for student schedule changes.
Don't forget that the PTSA Coffee Hour is on October 6 at 10:00am. Greg Sloan, Curriculum Associate for Counseling, will join us to discuss the college process and answer parent questions. Information about how to access the meeting is in the PTSA Connections Corner below.
Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Mr. David Cohen and Dr. Joe Prisinzano

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- Oct 8th - Bd of Education Meeting - 7:15PM
- Oct 12th - SCHOOL CLOSED
- Oct 13th SEPTA Mtg - 7PM
As you know, student wellness has been such an important topic for us at JHS. Over the past year we have been planning to roll out a program aimed at supporting students and the stress many of you face. We are excited for the start of the NEST program. The vision statement is "The Nest Period is a safe and supportive space for students to feel a deep connection with the members of our community and share voices for making positive change. "
A few weeks ago, we kicked off the program in core English classes for students in the hybrid model and with support staff (a counselor, psychologist or social worker) for students in the fully remote model. The feedback was incredibly positive with students welcoming and appreciating a space to engage in discussion where they could discuss their experiences.
The program will run approximately once a month throughout the year with the next session taking place later in October. Students in the hybrid model will learn more from their English teachers and our fully remote students will be receiving an email in their jerichoapps email account at least a week before the next meeting.
Making connections throughout the entire JHS community is one important step towards ensuring a healthy and supportive school community. We look forward to working with all of our students to make the NEST a place where each of your voices count.
