Red Team Weekly Update
Week of 12/2-12/6
Breaking News
- Every holiday season each team “adopts” a family in need. The Red Team is collecting cash & gift cards (to places like Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, grocery stores, etc). For more information, click this link.
- Several of our families rely on school-provided breakfast and lunch. Each year, we set a goal to organize and collect food to make 20 meal baskets that go to a Hixson student and their family to help them during the winter break. Just like the baskets prepared during Thanksgiving, this is a collaborative effort amongst all of the Hixson community. If you are interested in donating an item, please see the link below. We ask that you have all donations dropped off at the office by Friday, December 13th. Thank you for your continued support in making Hixson such a strong and supportive school! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c094fa9ab2aa7f49-holiday
The 28th Annual Webster Groves Holiday House Tour, sponsored by Hixson PTO, will take place on Sunday, December 8th from 11am to 4pm. This is the biggest fundraising event of the year and it takes many volunteers to make it successful! We have 6 beautiful homes and a holiday boutique that are opening their doors and we need LOTS of volunteers to work the event! The event time is 11am-4pm, and we have it split into 2 shifts. Please sign up using this link. We are also in need of treats for the boutique. If you are able to provide either store bought or homemade treats, please drop them off at Steger between 9-11am the day of the tour.
If you have any questions about the event itself, please reach out to Teresa Herrell at tabrussel4975@yahoo.com or 314-607-0957. Thank you for your help and support!
- Save the Date for the Winter Mixer on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 6:30-8:00pm! The theme will be Snow Ball. There will be a DJ, open gym, and snacks available for purchase. No cost to attend with suggested $5+ donation for Webster Rock Hill Ministries.
Parents-If you and/or your spouse were active duty military, employed by the federal government or otherwise worked on federal property on 9/25/2019, we need your help! Additional federal funding is available to school districts when at least 3% of the student population is from homes with parents/guardians employed by the federal government or working on federal property. Please see the attachments below for more information!
Classroom Happenings
ELA- Mr. Jones
We are headed down the stretch with our Non-Fiction Unit. This week we have been writing about our reading: thinking about big ideas and finding text evidence to support those ideas. Next week we will wrap up the reading of our books and then the following week will be dedicated to the final project for the Non-Fiction Unit. For my new December Blog, “Mental Break...not Breakdown” click here.
Science- Mrs. Creath
In Science we have started learning about living things. We spent this week learning about Cell Theory and next week will be learning about the six characteristics of living things.
Social Studies- Mrs. Pettid
This week, we continued our study of the monotheistic religions. We wrapped our escape room activity on Judaism and moved to learning about the origins and rise of Christianity. Next week we will focus on Islam and begin our World Religions project.
