Please consider volunteering to sponsor a child for Sheffield City Schools Operation Santa
Again this year, Sheffield City Schools is partnering with Sheffield area businesses, families, churches, and municipal organizations for Operation Santa to help provide for the needs of our children grades Pre-K-6 this Christmas.
With over 60% of our students qualifying for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and another 30% qualifying for reduced lunch, we know that the families of students in our school struggle financially and many are below the poverty level.
Our hope is to provide a Christmas assistance program for our students that is fully supported by the Sheffield community.
Last year 48 sponsors helped provide gifts for 101 children who attended Sheffield City Schools.
This year we would like to expand the program to include providing a Christmas dinner food box for each family.
Would you, your organization, or your church consider partnering with us? You might even consider getting several people together for this.
Please email or call me, Amy Davis, at 256-386-5720 or adavis@scs.k12.al.us to help out or for more information.
Feel free to pass this information along to other Sheffield residents, churches, business, organizations, etc.

Looking Ahead
A Blueprint for Success
Here's a current first grader and future architect!
On October 11 students in the Sheffield City School District participated in an I-Learning Day. This independent learning day exposed students to career opportunities by allowing them to visit local businesses, interview professionals, or job shadow in a career of interest. PK-12 teachers prepared students by exploring careers, conducting interest surveys, and teaching interview skills. Local businesses opened their doors to the students, and the community was filled with Sheffield students as they took a step in planning for future success. Sheffield City Schools prepared students for college and careers.
Phillip Cleveland (former interim state superintendent) spoke to the Sheffield faculty as did Baruti Kafele, author of Closing the Attitude Gap & How to Fire Up Your Students to Strive for Success.
In preparation for I-Learning Day, teachers took students on field trips throughout the community, invited guest speakers from the area, and even "skyped" with a local businessman and then a pilot (while flying their plane)!
Threadgill students returned from their day in the community with wonderful experiences exploring careers, and they shared their stories with classmates in a variety of ways, including creating posters, showing pictures, or even dressing up as the career that interested them the most.
