MILLER SOUTH
newsletter from the office
Dear families,
It was great to see so many of you yesterday at Orientation. The lazy days of summer are just about over. I hope that you have been able to spend time together as a family making memories and celebrating our beautiful weather. We at Miller South are looking forward to a great start to the school year in just a few days.
Please participate in the parent survey below. The results will be shared with you and used in collaboration with our PTA to help guide our parent priorities for this school year.
I eagerly look forward to greeting students and families. Together we will make this school year one of growth, achievement, and creativity for all of our students.

ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL
Arrival
The entrance doors are opened at 7:30 AM. Arriving students should report directly to their assigned homeroom seats in the auditorium or to the dining room to enjoy a free breakfast. Please do not bring any food or drink (including gum and candy) into the auditorium. To avoid traffic jams on East Ave., please be aware there are two building entrances open in the morning:
1. Door #3 is located at the back of the building on the East side. To get to Door #3, enter the driveway from East Avenue and continue around the building to the back side. At the door, please pull up as far as you can so that three cars can unload at once. After dropping off your child, the traffic pattern continues around the building to Howe Street. From there, jog left onto Celina, then right onto Thornton.
2. Door #12 is located by the gym. To get to the Door #12 from Thornton Ave., turn left onto Celina. The school is one block ahead.
To ensure the safety of our students and to prevent accidents, there are two important safety precautions:
1. Cars are not permitted to stop at Door #1 to drop off students. Only students who ride Metro or who walk to school may enter the building at the elevator doors.
2. At no time should a student be dropped off in front of the school on either side of East Avenue.
Dismissal
Students are dismissed from school at 3:00 PM. and are expected to wait for parental pickup outside of the school. It is expected that parents will pick-up their children promptly. If you cannot be at school by 3:20 PM, please make arrangements for after-school care for your child. At 3:20 PM any remaining students will be waiting in the office, and parents must come to the office to sign-out their child. If students are staying after school for rehearsals, sponsoring teachers will notify families in advance of the dismissal time and the pick-up location.
Students are assigned exit doors as follows: fourth and fifth graders exit through the Door #1 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders and carpools with mixed ages exit through the Door #12. Drivers, please help us keep our children safe: drive slowly, and watch out for students crossing in front of and behind your vehicle.
Any students walking to the Summit County Library after school are to exit from Door #1
