Awesome Great Frederick Fair Field Trip
Our trip was amazing! Most students were able to stop by the birthing center and see the brand new baby cow which was born early that morning as well as all the little piglets that were born 2 days before our trip. There were so many students that were mesmerized by these little animals as well as all the other animals. Students learned so much about the agriculture from our county. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Academic Infomation
Math
We have completed our first unit in math on place value which included comparing and rounding numbers.
As you are shopping in the grocery store, model and discuss with your child the use of rounding the cost of each item as you fill your cart - talk about the purpose of rounding up and then compare your rounded cost with the actual cost.

Math Fact Fluency Program has started - please see the file attached below for more information. Ask your child about which facts (s)he is working towards achieving. Each child has created a goal to meet based on his/her needs.
Has your child taken initiative to create flashcards to help meet the goal yet?
Every Student in our grade has a TenMarks account. With an internet connection, students can log in at home. Especially helpful are the jam sessions. Students can click on this tab to practice and speed up their basic skills. Parents can also create an account to see what their child is doing in the program. Please contact your child's teacher for log in information if you haven't received it yet.
Below are practice websites to help your child 'brush up' on his/her facts.
Language Arts
- Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
- Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text.
- Determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific words or phrases in a text relevant to a grade 4 topic or subject area.
Social Studies
We have spent time identifying different types of maps and discovering what information we can learn from each type. Ask your child: "What is the difference between a physical and a political map?" As you are utilizing your GPS, take the time to discuss with your child the use of directional terms, symbols, etc.
