Before and After School
At the end of the school day, students will be dismissed in the order below:
- Bus-first load students-2:10
- Parent Pick Up-2:15
- Bus-second load-2:20
WIth both arrival and dismissal times, we anticipate an increase in parents who are driving their students to and from school. We ask for your patience and we evaluate traffic flows and find ways to assist with smooth starts and ends to our days.
Cleaning Schedule
- Classes will be sanitized between every group of new students.
- Materials will not be shared during class periods.
- High touch surfaces will be cleaned several times per day (Doors, light switches....)
- Restrooms will be cleaned and sanitized twice daily.
- Surfaces in all offices and classrooms will be deep cleaned using our Clorox 360 machine every evening.
Mitigating Measures
- Masks must be work at all times by students and staff
- Students will distance as much as is feasible in each classroom
- Signage will be posted throughout every building reminding students of mitigating strategies.
- Every building has a COVID Response Team
- Students will sanitize hands when entering and leaving classrooms
- Classrooms will be sanitized every hour
- Students will be eating in their classrooms
- Students will be expected to be in their first hour fifteen minutes prior to the beginning of the school day
- Passing time will be limited
- Drinking fountains are turned off
- No lockers will be issued. Students will be allowed to carrying backpacks
- Classrooms and high traffic areas will be deep cleaned/sanitized every evening
- Students will be dismissed in waves at the end of the school day
- Students who are riding a bus will sanitize when they enter a bus and when they exit
- Students will have assigned seats on their bus
- Students must wear a mask while riding a bus
- Health Department, CDC, and State requirements are being implemented
Visitors During The Day
- Any non-essential personnel, visitors, vendors or community members arriving at a building will not be allowed entry and shall be communicated with by cell phone or vestibule intercom device.
- Parent/Teacher meetings shall be by appointment only if unable to conduct the meeting by phone or video conferencing.
- Health screening conducted on all who enter the building during instructional time. (Questioned about signs and symptoms, temp check for fever)

- There will be a table in the vestibule for parent item drop off.
- No outside community groups/recruiters/church groups during instructional time.
- In order to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff, RPS will no longer accept any third party or personal delivery to any school building. Third-party or personal delivery is described as any fast food, chain restaurant food, coffee type drinks, smoothies or other food products, flowers balloons, or other personal non-essential items delivered by a third party, parent, friend or acquaintance. Historically, food deliveries from third parties for students, athletic teams or co-curricular groups have also been accepted at the end of the day. This is also no longer permissible.
- School day lunches are to be brought from home or obtained through the RPS Food Service. Parents will still be allowed to drop off lunches from home in the vestibule at their student's building.
- We understand that there will be parents, community organizations and community members that may not agree with the protocols in place for the safety and security of our students and staff. If needed, please refer them to the RPS Security Dept. at 616-863-6034.

The logistics of transportation are incredible and Matt Puett our Director of Transportation has a great plan that will be implemented on the 14th. Servicing a district of 100 square miles and over 8,000 students is a challenge we are up for. Additional information will be coming from Transportation and Matt Puett about creative ways his department will be working to keep our students safe. - Students will sanitize their hands when they enter the bus.
- Masks must be worn at all times while on the bus.
- There will only be two students to a seat.
- Students will be assigned seats.
- Per the Kent County Health Department, while the bus is in motion, drivers may lower their masks to expose their nose so that their glasses do not fog up.
