Whangarei Boys' High School Term 2 Edition 2 2019
Developing Boys into Fine Men
Half way through the Year and making it big in the local paper!
End of June - Wow! I don't have to remind you that we are half-way through the year already. It's a bit early to think about Christmas shopping, but it won't be long!!!!
Great news! We were delighted that our very own Jacob G entered the recent T-shirt design contest and won from 17 entries (photo below). All the money raised from the sales will be used for youth services in Whangarei. I am sure that you will congratulate him with me as he has a very bright future in design and photography. Just awesome!!! Another proud moment was watching past Carruthian James-Dean Fisher-Harris represent the Kiwis in their triumphant game against Tonga on Saturday night. It's always great to see our Old Boys (especially Carruthians) doing so well.
This half term we have been looking at the school values of Whakawhanaungatanga and Manaakitanga (Respectful Relationships). Manaaki embodies the concepts of mana (authority) and aki (urging someone to act quickly). Manaakitanga describes the immediate responsibility and authority of the host to care for their visitor's emotional, spiritual, physical and mental wellbeing. We make sure that every new boarder is welcome and given all the 'tools' they need to adjust to their new environment. Having new boarders throughout the year is not unsual for us.
