5th and 6th Grade Music Vertically Team
I just wanted to share some awesome and meaningful vertical teaming that occurred when our 5th grade students were taught a lesson on breathing techniques from our wonderfully-talented middle school choir director, Mrs. Moore J She not only provided a positive introduction to the middle school fine arts, but also helped gave students of all ability levels tips for their individual success. She also worked as a clinician on specific songs that fifth grade will be performing at our Winter Concert. Students from other fifth grade classes were selected to come over and join us in order to pass along the information to their class. It was a great success and we look forward to collaborating again soon!

“For those of you that haven't attended an edcampSTL event, please note that it is run in an unconference format. This means that the participants decide the topics of conversation and the direction of the learning. It is truly a conference by you and for you. It includes free breakfast and lunch as well as a ton of great prizes to finish the day.” – from ConnectedLearningstl.org

District Character Education and Counselor Advisory Committee
October 13, 2016
Today's meeting focus was on Character Education throughout the district
Our committee meeting began with a video on motivation. Committee members answered the question, “Who inspires you to want to come to school every day?”
Video link: http://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/teachers-individual-students-special-tears-ensue/story?id=42554523
Overview of Character Education at each level was given to the committee, including the pictures attached below. Great discussion and great programs highlighted. Most, if not all classes at MVR-III are including some form of character education into their everyday lessons. Embedding the traits and not making it a separate program.

MVR-III Boasts about a State Presenter
Ms. Patty Byous presented a training focused on the “LOVE OF LITERACY” on Saturday, November 5, 2016, during the State's Early Learning Conference.
Patty stated, "I had a BLAST and received very positive feedback on the literacy work we are doing at MVR-III."
Teachers Create their Own Literacy Resource
Special Education Teachers, Brenda Carrington (CE) and Cathy Bearden (NE) have been collaborating to integrate appropriate literacy resources to their special education students. The purpose of the books is to allow special education students to access grade level curriculum with scaffolding that supports their work.
Ms. Carrington stated, "We created one book for emerging writers and also first through fifth grade books for narrative, opinion, and informational/research writing. We are implementing our newly developed resources this year and would love to have more teachers view and give input and suggestions about their effectiveness. The plan is to integrate more technology into the writing resources as that becomes more available at the elementary level."
Contact Brenda or Cathy if you would like more information or a copy of the resource.

PD Forms going all electronic soon....
1. All PD forms are going electronic beginning in January…that includes Applications for Workshops, PL Summaries, Approval of Advanced Work, Networking Opportunities, etc. PDC is hoping this electronic move take some paperwork of teachers' plates, wait time for approval, and streamline the approval process. We are excited that it will also help with asking for a sub because the electronica application for a workshop request once approved will populate to Aesop setting up the substitute request in motion automatically without teachers having to do an extra step. Plans are moving forward to have this process in place by second semester. In the meantime, thank you for following the current process related to all things PD.
