Welcome to the Prairie Point Panther Press!
Dear School Families:
I have absolutely loved getting to know the Prairie Point community. Our students have so many wonderful and caring people around them throughout their day here at school. Over the past several months, I have had the opportunity to work alongside teachers and staff members who continue to impress me with the time and effort that they put in to help each and every child be successful in the classroom and throughout his or her school day.
One of the most exciting parts about getting to know a new community is learning about and observing the culture in the school community. When I started a few months ago, many, many teachers, parents and former Prairie Point parents told me what a wonderful school community Prairie Point is and how much I am going to love it here. While I have felt that wonderful community since day one, today perfectly illustrated what an amazing community Prairie Point really is. The Panther Fitness Olympic Challenge was AWESOME! Our students had a blast, the support from our Home and School and volunteer parents was amazing and our teachers were leading the charge with enthusiasm!
I would like to offer a sincere “thank you” to our parents and sponsors for supporting our school fundraiser. I am thrilled to announce that in addition to having an awesome day, we were able to raise $17,408.75 to support our school! Thank you for making this possible. It looks like Mrs. Kern and I will be taking our leadership to the top….of the school! We will be spending a day, next week, on the roof.
Thank you for all that you do to make Prairie Point a wonderful school community!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jennifer Groves

Daily Attendance
Your child’s daily, on-time attendance is critical to their success in school. And while some challenges to your child’s school attendance are unavoidable, it’s important to understand the impact of each absence.
Attending school every day increases a child’s chances of success in school and in life.

News from the Art Room
Greetings from the art room!
Kindergarten students are beginning to learn about different media used in art and how to use them safely. First graders have been putting shapes together to make new things.
Each created upside-down self portraits and chameleons. This week we will be working outside and looking at tree textures. Second graders have been creating stories with lines. Lines to draw and lines to write work together to communicate ideas. Third graders are also discussing types of line. We are focusing on straight and curved lines to create imaginary creatures. Our first experience with writing an artist's statement was with this lesson. Fourth graders used repeating parallel lines to make wild hair portraits. Each one was so different and WILD! Fifth graders have illustrated the principles of art. We used imaginary bugs to communicate the definitions.
Throughout the year, I will be saving student artwork. At the end of each quarter, students will be organizing their work, looking carefully at their work, as well as making choices and goals for upcoming lessons. Being able to look critically but not negatively at one's work and finding ways to improve is an important life skill. Future art displays will be based on these choices and decisions. All artwork will be returned the last weeks of school in May. Stop by during parent/teacher conferences and see your child's portfolio!

Students& Parents-join us in the TerraCycle Drink Pouch Brigade!
TerraCycle upcycles and recycles traditional waste including drink pouches (such as Capri Sun, Kool Aid, Honest Kids, etc.) into a variety of consumer products. These products keep waste out of our landfills and contribute to a cleaner world. Here at Prairie Point, there are two easy ways to collect juice pouches at school and at home.
Students: After your lunch, simply place your empty pouches in the collection bin in the school cafeteria. No need to remove the straws!
Parents: Save your pouches at home and stop into the school foyer and deposit them into the Capri Sun collection box. Also-remind your child to place them in the collection bin during their lunch period.
Together we can help save the planet and earn money for our school.
Small efforts can make a difference!
