Weekly RAM Newsletter
A Brief Note from Dr. Burke
Dear Ram families,
Tuesday marks the beginning of the second quarter. Report cards will be sent home with students on Wednesday, November 6th. Students in the 6th grade elective wheel will rotate to the second spoke of their wheel. Please see below for details.
Tuesday is the last day to turn in your Butterbraid order forms. Friday is PJammin for Cancer Day where we wear pajamas to school to remember children who have cancer and aren't able to attend school. We are supporting the Phoenix Children's Hospital and students can write a card during lunch to one or more of the children.
This past week our 7th and 8th grade students attended a suicide prevention presentation from With Hope: The Amber Craig Memorial Foundation. The presentation focused on educating students on how to recognize the signs and causes of depression, the signs that may be present for someone who may be considering suicide and how to seek assistance. I had an opportunity to check in with several students following the presentation and their feedback was very positive. They said it was very informative and they generally feel better prepared for how to seek help or themselves or others. Our staff received a similar training Thursday morning during professional time and their feedback was positive as well.
I would also like to remind you of our see something, say something program and our PUSD tipline. Students, parents and staff are all encouraged to contact 1-844-PUSD-TIP to report any health or safety concerns anonymously. The tipline number and the suicide hotline number are also on the back of student ID cards to ensure they have easy access to this information. Our school counselors are also a great resource for our students and families. We hope you will discuss the content of the presentation, the tipline, and that it is important to report dangerous activity occurring on campus or even on other campuses if your student should become aware of that through their peers. We are all Team PUSD and regardless of campus, these are all our children.
That’s it for now. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday, because tomorrow is a non-student day and remember it's a 4/6/2 day.
Sincerely,
Dr. Burke
