Message from the Principal
September 11- I don't want this day to go by without sending out a very special thank you to all of our service men and woman and their families for their service and sacrifice to our country.
I hope your weekend was filled with joy and relaxation. Today's message is a discussion of the WHY. We have several policies in place at our campus and district wide that can be viewed as an inconvenience or hindrance for our families at times so I would like to address the reason WHY these policies are in place and clarify the purpose and reasoning behind them. HERE ARE 3 BIG ONES.
1. No check-outs after 2:45pm. During this time from 2:45 to 3:10pm we are wrapping up lessons, cleaning and organizing for the following day, checking the 'CHANGE IN TRANSPORTATION' list to ensure that we are dismissing students to the appropriate location. When students are being checked out during this time, teachers must stop the lesson or end of day process to make sure your child has their belongings and gets to the front office safely. If there are two or three students being checked out - this process becomes chaotic and unorganized because we are addressing the leaving of two or three students at the expense of the 20-25 students in the classroom. This also creates a traffic problem in the front-those of you checking-out your students early are leaving your car in the middle of the lane and blocking our school buses and daycare buses.
2. Parents, guardians and emergency contacts must present IDs to check out a student or come into the building for lunch or volunteering. This is a district policy and mandate. When we check your ID we are required to use our RAPTOR system to verify who you are. It is like a mini background check for safety. We also want to ensure that we are releasing students to people that YOU want them released to. If you send someone to get your child that is not on the emergency contacts we will NOT release them unless you have called us to inform us and given us permission. We have families with custody plans or certain individuals that are not cleared to see children that we must abide by. Please don't give the front office a hard time about showing your ID, we just want to keep your child safe.
3. No curb pick-ups. If you roll up on Woodland Hills and then call your child over to jump in the car from the big tree walker post we will hold them until we get them across the street to a safe pick-up location. Traffic is heavy and fast and rolling to a stop to get your child in the car to avoid the car rider line is dangerous and the constable will ticket you. This also pulls staff away from the ~60 children that we are walking across the street. Crosswalk duty is challenging and dangerous at times for our teachers and students so please help us by following dismissal processes.
I hope these explanations of WHY policies are in place help! Please always feel free to reach out directly to WPE Administration with concerns or questions!

Counselor Corner:
For these 9 weeks, we are focusing on Decision Making. Try this at home to support this skill - Guide your child through the decision-making process by asking these questions…
What is the decision that needs to be made?
What options, preferred and non-preferred, do I have?
What pros and cons come with each option?
What rules should be considered?
How will this decision impact others?
What is my gut telling me to do?
How does that decision make me feel?
What’s my plan B?
Check out our Quarterly Counselor Newsletter.
Personalized Counseling has started! Click here for a quick video from Dr. Fagan about Personalized Counseling! Fast forward to 6 minutes for the part on Elementary 1:1 meetings. If you have any questions about our 1:1 meetings, please feel free to contact me directly.

News From Nurse Lindsey
The Nurses Clinic Needs YOUR Help
The clinic could really use your help in stocking our shelves. We are running low on girls and boys bottoms for clothing changes. As mentioned in the past, clothes are kept so that our students can change without having to interrupt a parent's day. Sometimes they change because of restroom accidents, but a lot of times it is for food/drink spills, mud puddles, or being out of dress code. Below is a list of what would be most useful to have in our clinic. Good condition, used clothes are always welcome.
-Female leggings (all sizes)
-Female athletic shorts/pants (all sizes)
-Male athletic shorts/pants (all sizes)
-Male and female underwear (all sizes) THESE MUST BE NEW IN PACKAGE
Thank you in advance!!!

2022-2023 COVID Protocols
Please complete the COVID-19 Student Self-Reporting Form if your child has received a confirmed positive test for COVID-19. The district is required to share positive case information with the Health Department.
TEA requires that students with COVID remain away from school until re-entry criteria has been met. TEA states the following conditions for re-entry:
- If the child tested positive for COVID-19 but did not experience symptoms: the child “must stay home until at least 5 days after the day they were tested.”
If the child tested positive for COVID and experienced symptoms: “at least 5 days have passed since symptom onset, and fever free, and other symptoms have improved.”
Parents should also follow the normal procedures for reporting a student's absence to the campus.
