Students will watch the Animal Alphabet on Discovery Education (you must create a discovery education account to view the content) the video clip will show animals from all across the world. Students will be able to decide which animal they want to further explore. They will be able to use a QR code reader to look at more videos about their specific animal. Students will then use an app called Padlet to add more pictures and videos about the animals. The teacher can add questions for the students to answer such as, what is this animal's habitat and what features does this animal have that makes it for its environment? Students will then explore facts about their animal by using PebbleGo.
2. How To Take Care of My Pet
Show the video of Pet 101 Rabbits from animal planet, then have the students complete a Think, Pair, Share. During this activity, they should ask the question if you could have any pet, what would it be? What were some of the things that the video said that pet rabbits need? Students will then be able to choose any pet and then use PebbleGo to research how to take care of that particular pet.
3. Informational Writing for Elementary Students
Begin the conversation about pumpkins during the fall, then ask the students have they ever helped to carve a pumpkin. As students are talking about their pumpkin carving experiences, begin a KWL chart (what the students know, what they want to know and what they learned). The teacher should then read aloud several nonfiction books such as From Seed to Pumpkin, the Pumpkin Book, and Perfect Pumpkins. Tell the students that there are many different ways of gathering information for their writing. Show the Pumpkin Harvest video from PebbleGo, then allow the students to find research about pumpkins while using the same site.
