Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher conferences will be held from November 13th-November 21st. The conferences will be virtual unless an in person conference is requested. Please contact your child's teacher if you don't have a conference scheduled during that time.
Library Books
Do you ever wonder when your child's library books should go back to school? The simplest answer: when they have their library media class. Here is the class schedule! Additionally, if they are finished "early" with their books and need new ones or if they return their books and we don't have class scheduled soon then their teacher can send them to the library. This might mean that a student still gets to keep their books even though it is media class day (because, for example, they might not have had them very long). The borrowing periods are: 1st/2nd graders have two weeks and kindergarteners have one week with their books. Please email Susan_G_Anderson@mcpsmd.org if you have any questions like, for example, what book(s) need to be returned.

From the Health Room
Often students have bathroom and other clothing related accidents at school. When children have bathroom accidents, fallen in mud or have spilled something on themselves they need a change of clothes. In an effort to meet the needs of our children, the healthroom tries to keep changes of clothes for accidents. We are low on available clothing and need your help. We are looking for boys, girls and non--binary clothing sizes 4-10. Specifically, we need underwear (new only), pants and shirts. A change of clothes will go a long way to help a child who has had an accident feel better continuing through the school day. If you can, please send in clothing to make sure our kids can continue with their learning even when there is an accident. Thanks in advance for helping!
Hearing and Vision Testing November 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th
ENGLISH
In accordance with Maryland State Law students in Montgomery County Public Schools are screened for possible vision and hearing problems. Trained hearing and vision screeners will be screening students new to MCPS, students in Grade (s) Kindergarten and 1, and students referred by teachers because of possible signs of hearing or vision problems. The screeners will be at Takoma Park Elementary School on Monday, November 6th, Tuesday, November 7th; Wednesday, November 8th; and Thursday, November 9th, 2023.
Children who do not see clearly or are unable to hear what their teacher and classmates are saying have a harder time learning at school.
You will receive a referral form, via US mail, to take to your child’s doctor if your child fails the screening. If your child is already under care for a hearing or vision problem, or you do not wish your child to be screened at school because of conflicts with your religious beliefs, please notify the school nurse in writing.
If your child wears glasses or contacts, they should wear them every day and bring them to the screening.
School based vision screenings may not detect every vision problem. To learn more about possible vision problems and symptoms or health conditions that may require additional evaluation go to Montgomery County Government’s website at this link:
https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/HHS-Program/PHS/SchoolHealth/HearingVision.html
Contact your school’s nurse if you have questions about your child’s screening.

https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/HHS-Program/PHS/SchoolHealth/HearingVision.html

The Zones of Regulation
In counseling, we are working on identifying expected and unexpected behaviors.
This week, students will be examining whether a behavior is expected in a situation or unexpected. We will read the story Miss Nelson Is Missing.
Additional Activity for students
Ask students throughout the week to think about whether a behavior they observed or did was expected or unexpected by you.
