BULLDOG BULLETIN
New Britton Elementary
March 2021
News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
Second semester brings the promise of spring. I hope that you have been able to take some time to enjoy at least a few of the sunny days we have experienced in the last week. Our students certainly appreciated the warmth of the sun after several cold, snowy days!
Second semester also historically brings several local and state assessments. While these assessments provide information regarding student growth and achievement, it is important to note that the numerous transitions and altered school day must be considered when reviewing results. Our grade-level teams are in the process of analyzing our recent NWEA assessment, as well as other learning measures, to determine areas of success as well as opportunities for improvement. The results will be used to help us decide upon next steps for grade levels, classrooms, and individual students. Our district will be emailing NWEA results to families the week of March 8. I encourage you to connect with your student's teacher if you have any questions about this assessment or your student's progress so far this year.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act provided new monies in 2021 designated for elementary schools to hire instructional assistants to partner with teachers in support of student learning. At New Britton, we were fortunate to hire three certified teachers in this capacity: Ms. Russell, Ms. Myers, and Ms. Hartman. Our CARES Instructional Assistants are working with individuals and small groups in every grade level. They provide a boost or reteaching of skills in language arts and math.
Although this year has been a challenge, I cannot imagine a better school team, parents, and community working together to support student learning!
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin, Principal
Spring Break Travel
If you plan to travel outside the United States, the CDC offers recommendations for a safe return to the U.S. and school:
*Get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for 7 days after travel.
*Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.
*If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected. (10 days isolation from start of symptoms or test date, whichever occurs first)
*If you don’t get tested, it’s safest to stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
*Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.

Commitment to Health & Safety - COVID Reporting
Change in COVID Communication to Families
CONTACT TRACING HSE - Change in Procedure (see HSE Operations Plan)
Schools will immediately contact Fishers Health Department and/or Hamilton County Health Department upon learning of a positive COVID case among student body or staff. The Indiana State Department of Health will lead contact tracing and case investigation in consultation with FHD. As of Feb. 17, general notification of COVID-related cases in schools via Skylert will cease. Families will only be notified if their student(s) are a close contact. This change in practice is to reduce confusion. All COVID-related cases among students and staff can be found on the COVID19 Data Dashboard and is updated on Monday mornings. The dashboard was created to provide transparency about what is happening in the school corporation.
This information has been added to the HSE Operations Plan, which can be reviewed by using the link below.
