Troy Widgery: Surviving Personal Tragedy
Personal tragedies come in a host of forms and occur to everyone at some point in life. Often, when a personal tragedy hits you, it makes you feel like the winds have fallen completely out of your sails. For many people, a loss leaves a void in their heart, replaced by a sad and empty feeling. Finding the motivation to continue can be a hard task altogether.
For Troy Widgery, personal loss came after a tragic plane accident took the lives of fellow skydivers training for a major event. Having joined the renowned Airmoves skydiving team in anticipation of the U.S. Skydiving Championships in the following year, Troy was looking to enjoy his time training and bonding with the team. However, while training in Southern California, the jump plane they were in suffered engine failure and the resulting crash claimed the lives of 16 of the 22 passengers on board. Troy is thankful he survived but had to face the reality of recovery.
In the years that followed, Troy Widgery would have to allow himself to grieve in order to move on. Allowing yourself to grieve is usually recommended when facing personal tragedy. Whether it's by letting the tears flow or just sitting and staring out the window, facing the grieving process head on is good for you.
For Troy Widgery, spending time on the activities he also loved helped him move on. Known for his passion for extreme sports, Troy stayed busy through snowboarding, B.A.S.E jumping, and racing. Doing all these lifted his moods and made it easier to get through.
Troy Widgery: Making Dreams Come True
For an individual to make their dream come true, they have to be ready to work hard and overcome all challenges that come their way. From childhood, Troy Widgery harbored big dreams, many of which he has been able to accomplish. Now a successful entrepreneur and owner of the Go Fast Sports & Beverage Company, Troy continues to inspire others that dreams can indeed come true.
As a child, Troy Widgery wanted to become a stuntman. This particular line of work requires knowledge of almost all kinds of extreme sports and activities, something that also comes with health risks. Not being one to shy away from a challenge, Troy set to learn as many extreme sports as he could, and by the time he graduated college, he was good enough to join a professional skydiving team. A tragic plane accident would derail the team's plans to participate in the US Skydiving Championships, but it did not deter Troy from continuing to pursue his dreams.
While Troy Widgery's love of flying might have been evident from his passion for skydiving, it came to the fore when he was able to come together with friends and create a jet pack from scratch. "I think everyone has the passion for flying … And that is the mystique of jetpacks," he explained at the time. Spurred by what he had seen in a James Bond movie, Troy and his colleagues would premiere the Go Fast Jet Pack in 2007, and set world records in terms of height and distance covered by such an invention.
Troy Widgery: Setting Records
No company has quite the appetite for life, and for extremes, as the Go Fast Sports and Beverage Company. Company CEO Troy Widgery has set his company apart from the competition through record-breaking feats, extreme events and a commitment to always approach and live life on the edge.
Troy Widgery has long believed in the idea that life should be pushed to the extreme, and has infused this idea into the Go Fast company since its creation in 1996. Go Fast has not only Go Fast Jet Pack Flights at many major events across the globe, it has also been involved in the heart-pounding thrills of many BASE jumping events, The Go Fast Human Slingshot, which has broken records as the highest reverse bungee jump in human history, The World’s Smallest Parachute and more. Troy Widgery looks to continue to position Go Fast as the number one extreme brand of products in the world, and has set the bar incredibly high.
Other amazing events Troy Widgery and the Go Fast team have been involved in include a Go Fast Jet Pack flight across the Royal Gorge, The World’s fastest ever freefall, the longest motorcycle ride through a blazing tunnel on fire, and more. Troy Widgery has also taken his company, brand and product line to outer space, making the Go Fast Energy Drink the first energy drink to have ever broken the barriers of Earth’s atmosphere.
Troy Widgery: Elite Skydiver
Troy Widgery remains a passionate and enthusiastic skydiver to this day, seeking the thrill of jumping from an airplane at any opportunity. His love of skydiving, which began as a teenager at Cherry Creek High School, translated into a successful skydiving career at an early age, allowing him to join the well-known skydiving team known throughout the professional community as Airmoves.
Though honored to have become an Airmoves teammate, and to have had the opportunity to compete with the team during the 1993 U.S Skydiving Championships, Troy Widgery is often saddened by the memory of tragedy.
During championship training with the team, Troy Widgery and his teammates were involved in a tragic and lethal plane crash, one that claimed all but six of the lives on board. The tragedy, which nearly cost him his life, is a sorrowful reminder of the dangers of the sport, though it has yet to deter his passion or enthusiasm for skydiving, or for extreme living.
Troy Widgery successfully overcame the tragedy of that fateful day, and has since become not only an avid adventurer and thrill enthusiast, but also a successful entrepreneur and business owner, the proud leader of what is now the Go Fast Sports and Beverage Company. He has successfully transformed his love of the “Go Fast” lifestyle into an enduring and well-known business venture, continuing to be known as one of the leading sports apparel and energy drink companies in the country and throughout the world.
Troy Widgery remains an elite and expert skydiver, and never misses an opportunity to seek adventure in the sky.
Troy Widgery: More Than Just A Business
Troy Widgery says that his Go Fast Sports and Beverage Company is more than just a business enterprise; he says it represents a lifestyle.
He began Go Fast in 1996. Troy Widgery had by then already demonstrated his skill in business. He had founded Sky Systems while he was still a student at the University of Colorado, and it quickly became the leading manufacturer of skydiving helmets and other accessories.
Go Fast Sports and Beverage Company, succeeded even more than Sky Systems, and Troy Widgery was able to pursue one of his childhood dreams. After seeing a jet pack demonstrated at a Go Fast event, Troy Widgery and a couple of his friends decided to build one of their own. The result was the Go Fast Jet Pack.
In 2007, the Go Fast Jet Pack and its pilot set a world record for a Jet Pack Flight from the center point of the Royal Gorge in Canyon City Colorado to the edge, a distance of about 1500 feet, soaring 1,153 feet above the canyon floor. The Go Fast Jet Pack has also astonished spectators at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England, when its pilot flew the Olympic Torch on Day 46 of its route around the country. Later the Go Fast Jet Pack was flown in front of the world’s tallest building in Dubai.
Troy Widgery has always dreamed big, and the Go Fast Jet Pack is the biggest things he has managed so far. But he still has a lot of ideas, and Troy Widgery and the Go Fast lifestyle may come up with even more awe-inspiring ideas in the years ahead.
Troy Widgery: Living On The Edge
Troy Widgery began Go Fast as a line of sports clothing, but the company later expanded to include the Go Fast Energy Drink and Go Fast Energy Gum. Today, Go Fast has the Go Fast Jet Pack, and Troy Widgery hopes that one day he can have a version of it available for the consumer market.
Troy Widgery has always loved living on the edge, even as a child. When he was four years old, Troy Widgery began racing quarter midget cars, and by the age of seven was racing motorcycles. As a teenager he began skydiving.
When he was a student at the University of Colorado, his passion for skydiving was channeled into business. Troy Widgery founded Sky Systems, a maker of sky diving helmets, and the company quickly became the leading manufacturer of skydiving helmets and accessories.
Troy Widgery founded Go Fast in 1996. The company was originally making sports apparel, but soon added the Go Fast Energy Drink and Go Fast Energy Gum. Go Fast was by then not merely a company, Troy Widgery says, but a lifestyle.
Troy Widgery had always wanted to fly in a jetpack like the one James Bond flew in the movie Thunderball. Go Fast Sports and Beverage Company became the means of realizing that dream. “The goal,” Troy Widgery says, “was to build a lighter, faster, more economical and longer-flying hydrogen peroxide jet pack than the original Rocket Belt built by Bell Aerosystems in the 1960’s, and the successors, which have been based on that model.”
The Go Fast Jet Pack was born. It has established world records for jet packs by flying across Colorado’s Royal Gorge, a distance of fifteen hundred feet at seventy-five miles an hour.
Troy Widgery: A Lifestyle Brand
Troy Widgery founded Go Fast in 1996, and the company began selling a line of sports clothing. But Go Fast quickly expanded, and turned into something else: what its founder calls a way of life.
“Go Fast is an independent, authentic, lifestyle brand; in an industry full of corporate giants,” Troy Widgery says. “On any given day, you can find a member of the Go Fast Team skydiving, B.A.S.E. jumping, racing, cycling, snowboarding, and living The Go Fast Lifestyle! Go Fast is made for people who have a passion for living life on the edge.”
Before long, Go Fast was manufacturing and selling not only sports apparel, but the Go Fast energy drink and Go Fast energy gum. The company was doing very well, but Troy Widgery had a dream he had been nursing since childhood. 2003, after seeing a rocket belt flight at a Go Fast Event, he and a couple of friends decided to build a jet pack of their own.
Troy Widgery: Life After Tragedy
Troy Widgery has always gone fast. As a four year old, he was racing quarter midget cars, and winning both races and championships. He started racing motorcycles at seven, and by the time he was a teenager at Cherry Creek High School in his native Denver, Colorado, Troy Widgery was jumping out of airplanes. “I was fifteen,” he recalls, “and I was trying to learn all different sports, and skydiving was one of them.”
Troy Widgery kept up with skydiving and became very good at it, but his also took his passion for and channeled it into business. While he was still a student at the University of Colorado, he founded Sky Systems, which very quickly became the leading manufacturer of skydiving helmets and accessories in the country.
In 1993, as a member of the Airmoves skydiving team, Troy Widgery survived a serious plane crash that killed most of those on board. He had been training for the U.S. Skydiving Championships when the tragedy occurred in Southern California.
Three years later, Troy Widgery founded another company. Go Fast Sports. He describes it as not just a company, but a way of life. Go Fast Sports evolved into Go Fast Sports and Beverage, with a line of sports clothing and a beverage called Go Fast Energy Drink.
Now the Go Fast lifestyle has gone further than anyone but Troy Widgery might have imagined. In 2003 he and a couple of friends put their heads together to help Troy realize a lifelong dream. They developed and manufactured the Go Fast Jet Pack, a futuristic flying machine that has already set world records for jet packs. Troy Widgery’s Go Fast Jet Pack flew some fifteen hundred across Colorado’s Royal Gorge at seventy-five miles an hour.
And when he can find the time, Troy Widgery still enjoys skydiving.
Troy Widgery: The Passion To Fly
Troy Widgery is the founder and CEO of the Go Fast Sports and Beverage Company, which makes the Go Fast Energy Drink and Go Fast Energy Gum. Troy Widgery says he is proud of the fact that Go Fast is “the Athlete’s Energy Brand.”
The Go Fast Sports and Beverage Company is the second successful company established by Troy Widgery. He founded his first company, Sky Systems, while he was still a student at the University of Colorado. Sky Systems made skydiving helmets and other skydiving accessories, and quickly became the industry leader.
But what Troy Widgery really wanted to do was fly – not in an airplane, but as an individual. He had been passionate about the idea ever since he was a kid and saw a jetpack featured in the James Bond movie Thunderball. “I think everyone has the passion to fly,” he says, “and that is the mystique of jetpacks.”
A turning point for Troy Widgery and the Go Fast Sports and Beverage Company arrived in 2003. In June of that year, he saw a rocket belt demonstrated at a Go Fast event. That demonstration made all the difference: Troy Widgery and a couple of his friends began brainstorming about how to build a jetpack of their own.
The Go Fast Jet Pack was the result of all their dreaming and designing, and today it is a reality. The Go Fast Jet Pack has been demonstrated at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and during an event in front of the world’s tallest building in Dubai. Troy Widgery is proud that it set a record for speed and altitude for jet packs, when it flew some fifteen hundred feet across Colorado’s Royal Gorge.
Troy Widgery Has a Passion for Flying
The Founder and CEO of what he calls “The Athlete’s Energy Brand”, Go Fast leader Troy Widgery continues to respect and admiration of not only members of the business community, but also the many loyal customers his company has sold high-quality clothing apparel, energy drinks and energy gum to since the business’s inception.
Though Go Fast is a highly-successful leader in the energy drink and sporting apparel markets, it isn’t the only company that Troy Widgery has turned into a smashing success story. The original leader, and founder, of Sky Systems, a leading skydiving helmet and accessory company, Troy Widgery has experience pushing his innovations into the forefront of industry. A skydiving expert and enthusiast, Widgery saw an opening, and a demand, for a high-quality line of skydiving safety equipment, and seized the opportunity to make it happen.
Troy Widgery is well-known business professional and adventurist, though he has also always had a passion for flying machines. His interest in these machines was piqued as a child, the first time he had an opportunity to watch the James Bond adventure movie “Thunderball.” Noticing a jet pack used by Bond during one of the film’s many action sequences, Troy Widgery developed a passion for building the same kind of machine. Now a successful business owner, he has had the means and the support needed to build his own jet pack, one that has been featured during numerous events and TV broadcasts and that has broken numerous world records.
Troy Widgery took his passion for flying into a unique direction, one that amazes and delights people of all ages.
