The Wallace Wildcat
Dear Wallace School Parents and Guardians,
As the first full week of the calendar year comes to an end, we realized how robust a week in the life of a Wallace School student can be. Our Wallace School Community continues to thrive. Once again I am proud to give you a glimpse inside the walls of 1100 Willow Avenue.
Academia
In academic news, a walk around our halls will show you our staff continues to engage our students with fun and exciting assignments. Many classes are publishing writing themed on winter. In math, we continue to engage students with real-world math problems. In science, students in all grades continue to engage with hands-on concepts and projects through Project Lead The Way. I am proud to say that our students continue to be afforded a quality comprehensive course of study that lays the foundation for future success.
Spirit Week
2020 started off with a bang at Wallace School. The entire school took part in the 2020 Spirit Week Kickoff. The building was in well represented by dressing up in Wallace gear, mixed match day, and being part of wacky tacky hat/hair day. It was a great way to start off 2020.
Paging Dr. Wallace
This week, some classes pretended that they were doctors while solving math problems. They had to find the symptoms, diagnosis, and a second opinion. (Second opinion meaning a different strategy to solve the problem) This was part of a two step lesson, where they will later during the week perform a “character autopsy” on the characters from Coraline in their ELA class.
The Governor's Educator of the Year Winners
I would like to give a big Wallace School congratulations to our Educator of the Year, Mrs. Jaqueline Cordero and our Educational Service Professional of the Year, Ms. Theresa Coari. Both educators are pillars of the school and are both loved and respected within the Wallace School community. They will be honored and celebrated during the February Board of Education Meeting. We will feature them in our next Wallace Wildcat. More to come...
Coming Soon
Save the date: Next week our fabulous PTO will sponsor our annual International Night on Friday, January 24, 2020. Bring the family for a fun filled evening that is sure to be a blast. Also, please do not forget that there will be no school on Monday, January 20, 2020 in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
