Principal's Update
March 8th - March 12th, 2021
Newsletter Preview: Hybrid, WHM, Forecasting, Latino Family Night...
Welcome to the second week in March! Spring break is fast approaching. Last Friday, many of us learned about our Governor Kate Brown's expectations for schools to begin offering in person instruction to students across Oregon (for more information about the Governor's statement, read here). With our district's recent welcoming of students participating in LIPI, we are right on track with our Governor's plan.
I believe PPS will be sharing more concrete details about what hybrid or in person instruction will look like. Please know as soon as details are released, I will be communicating the plan to our Beaumont community. We look forward to welcoming our students back to school sooner, rather than later.
Moreover, Ms. Stevie Newcomer has completed the portion of her substitute assignment at Beaumont. We are sending her off with the best wishes, as she continues her retirement. For the next few weeks, Ms. Carol Campbell (retired principal at Grant High School) will be supporting our school, as the substitute administrator. I will still be supporting the Interim Principal role during Ms. V's time off. If you have questions or need support, you are welcome to continue to contact me, or you are welcome to reach out to Ms. Campbell at ccampbell@pps.net.
Sincerely,
Robbie
"In 1949, Jean Richardson was the first woman to graduate from Oregon State University’s Civil Engineering program. Jean Richardson voluntarily worked for free during the first month of her first job out of college. Her goal: Prove to the company that her work was just as good as the male engineers at the firm. By the end of the month, she made her point and the firm hired her for pay. (How much? And how did it compare to her male counterparts? We can only guess.)
After working in Alabama and taking time to raise a family, Jean returned to Oregon where she became the first woman to head maintenance engineering for the City of Portland where, towards the end of her career, she designed the Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Today, one of Portland’s Aerial Tram cars is named “Jean” to honor her legacy and contributions to the City as a trailblazing female engineer."
