VENMO
You can also donate to our Venmo account at @Hixson-Courtesy include your team’s color in the “What’s it for?” - Several of our families rely on school-provided breakfast and lunch. Each year, we set a goal to organize and collect food to make 20 meal baskets that go to a Hixson student and their family to help them during the winter break. Just like the baskets prepared during Thanksgiving, this is a collaborative effort amongst all of the Hixson community. If you are interested in donating an item, please see the link below. We ask that you have all donations dropped off at the office by Friday, December 13th. Thank you for your continued support in making Hixson such a strong and supportive school! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c094fa9ab2aa7f49-holiday
- The 28th Annual Webster Groves Holiday House Tour, sponsored by Hixson PTO, will take place on Sunday, December 8th from 11am to 4pm. This is the biggest fundraising event of the year and it takes many volunteers to make it successful! Classroom Happenings
ELA- Mrs. Wells
In ELA for Mrs. Wells, students were introduced to 2 new databases to conduct research for their historical fiction book clubs. We established book clubs and devised norms & daily expectations. This week, we focused on characters and the conflicts that shape them within our historical fiction books. Students analyzed the backstory to both the events & characters, as well as the correlation to conflict. No weekly words this week or next!
Science- Mr. Hayes & Mr. Geringer
In science this week, students have started our chemistry unit. We have been learning about the periodic table, how it is arranged, hidden patterns, and all that is displayed on the table. There has been a variety of activities and discussions to help familiarize the students with these concepts. Students are encouraged to keep reviewing the concepts as we discuss them in class. Taking things in smaller chunks makes these concepts much easier to remember.
Social Studies- Dr. Rachal
In Dr. Rachal’s class this week, students took a quiz over the preamble and the 7 principles on Monday December 2nd. Students finished Executive Command in iCivics to learn about the jobs/roles of the President. Tuesday through Friday Student’s played the board game Constitution Quest (thank you Donor’s Choose for the funds to purchase the games) and Three Branches of Power in iCivics to learn about the structure and function of our government and the roles of each branch.
