The Future Business Leaders of America kicked off the 2015-16 school year with its first membership meeting and pizza party! This year’s officers are ready to take action this year to ensure a spectacular year ahead filled with many events and opportunities. Starting off the year, F.B.L.A. participated in the Student Activities Halloween Party, where members volunteered their time at our Creepy Coloring booth to handout candy while the children color spooky pages. New this year, F.B.L.A. members will have an opportunity to participate in Junior Achievement’s High School Heroes Program—members eagerly volunteered to become role models to local elementary children for a day. Outside of volunteering, the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive is currently underway through November 13th. This year F.B.L.A.’s annual Holiday field trip will be to Madison Square Garden for the play “Elf” with “Behind the Scenes Tour”. Our members are geared up to compete at the F.B.L.A. District Competitions that will take place in late January at L.I.U.-Post. Our Co-Presidents and officers are working hard to make this year fabulous!

New Hyde Park Memorial HS ADL, CDP, and DLC programs Halloween dance
On October 29, the New Hyde Park Memorial HS ADL, CDP, and DLC programs attended a Halloween dance hosted by the Best PALS at Great Neck North High School. The Special Education programs at the two schools have been collaborating on dances for the past 3 years to encourage socialization of our Special Education Students. Between the schools, 3 annual dances are held. Over 80 students usually attend with an extensive amount of teachers volunteering their time to supervise.
Student Safety is of the Utmost Concern!
I know that this was in the last edition - BUT, I can not stress this enough!!! The safety of all our students is first and foremost. I ask that all parents adhere to street signs and the rules of the road. Please do not double park or make U turns on Leonard or Evergreen; drive slowly and wait for students to cross the street. The parking lot off of Evergreen Ave is for staff and buses only, and should not be used as a drop off location. Again, the safety of our students is our number one priority. Thanks for adhering to these simple, yet important "rules of the road."
Fire Department Field Trip
The NHPMHS special education classes took a field trip to the the New Hyde Park Fire Department on Jericho Tpke. The students learned about fire safety and received a tour of the fire station. The students were able to examine and learn about the different types of equipment and trucks used in emergency situations.
