Brandt's Friday Message

Happy Friday Brandt Community –
One of my favorite things to see after a long holiday weekend is when students and staff return to the building and it looks like we never left. As I walked through classes, especially at the start of the week, it was evident that our teachers and learners came back refreshed and eager to pick back up with their work. I saw fourth graders working with multiplicative comparisons, second graders determining the number of columns and rows needed to represent math problems, first graders finding totals of math problems where the equation was a mix of a digit and symbols, and kindergarteners describing their own custom designed gingerbread cookies. I’ve said it before but it warrants another mention – seeing our learning community in action is truly a spectacular thing. (On a side note, I included some photos of a few of our fantastic hallway displays so you get the chance to see what I see!)
This week I am compelled to highlight our fantastically magnificent Brandt School Chorus. This past Tuesday they made their debut under the direction of Mr. Panfile at the Hoboken Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at City Hall. Their performance of “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” received rave reviews. I do hope you have the chance to come and see them perform at the annual Elementary Schools Winter Concert, scheduled for Wednesday, December 18th at 7:00 PM in the Hoboken High School auditorium. In addition to our chorus, our String Ensemble under the direction of Ms. Monblatt will be featured at the concert, as will our Brandt Band students under the direction of Mr. Brassel. The students have worked incredibly hard up to this point and we eagerly await their chance to perform for the community. Additionally, I am pleased to announce that on Thursday, December 19th, our students in grades 2 – 5 will take a walking field trip to Hoboken High School during the school day to see their Brandt peers perform, as well as the instrumental and choral music students of Connors and Wallace.

Looking ahead, next week, we are happy to host the Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe from December 10th – 12th. All of our homerooms received a shopping time to attend the event. They will be able to buy gifts for family members for the holidays and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Brandt PTO. Please note that this event is cash only. The PTO has a few slots available to volunteer during the event. If you have time and would like to do so, please visit this link:

Also, keep in mind towards the end of the month that Monday, December 23rd is a 1:00 PM dismissal day for all students and staff and there will be no Passport to Learning After School Program. School will be closed for holiday break from Tuesday, December 24th to Wednesday, January 1st. School will then reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2020.
For this week’s playlist, I have no idea why, but my listening habits recently took on a 80s era Pink Floyd, Iggy Pop, David Bowie flavor. Naturally, I feel compelled to share some with you! Have a wonderful and well-deserved weekend and we’ll reconvene on Monday.
