And we're off and running!
Traditionally there is a Monday Memo each week with updates on what is happening at school. These deal primarily with logistics, deadlines, and the daily ins and outs of community life here at HCCS.
Please read the Monday Memos as it will be assumed you know the information contained in them. Thank you!
We realize it is now Tuesday...but you were here on Monday so it would have been a bit silly to email you while you were standing next to us. Consider this week an aberration!
Thank You
THANK YOU!
From Mrs. Martinez
Hello everyone,
Thank you for your patience. Yesterday I timed our pickup and it was exactly nine minutes, but I hope to get it down to six by Friday! I have worked at schools with very long pickup lines and we are doing everything we can to avoid that. We have some ideas on our end regarding how to streamline the process. Here is what I need from you.
Suggestions For A Streamlined Pick Up Process
- Tricky Seat Belts: If you have a little person who needs help with his/her carseat belts and the teachers are struggling, perhaps drive off, pull over, and buckle the child up. This will meet the twin goals of speed and safety.
- Following Directions: Please don't circumvent the line or park in the Lower School parking lot. This is a decision from Father Granito and the parish staff. (See note below about lower parking lot closure.)
Most of all, thanks for your patience! This isn't ideal for any of us, but with graciousness and grit we can make it work until our new building comes!
Morning Drop-Off
- Drop off will require parents to use good judgment while dropping off their children. Please make sure your students enter the building through the Upper School doors. The school cannot take responsibility for students until they enter the building at 7:45.
- The school building will be unlocked upstairs at 7:45 AM and re-locked at 8:00 AM for student drop off.
- Parents who need to visit the office outside of those hours should ring the door bells(s) for entry. Parents may access the downstairs door for office access, but it isn't meant for general student access until construction is finished.
Idea
- The idea of a staggered drop-off with a parent volunteering to watch students from 7:30-7:45 has been floated. It is a great idea, but it isn't something the school can organize or take responsibility for. If parents want to coordinate something, however, that is perfectly fine!
Just remember, your student's safety is very important and the school isn't open to receive students until 7:45 AM. Thank you!
Lower Lot Q & A
No, unless there is a funeral, or there is a Holy Day, the parish has asked that we stay away.
Why not?
- There is a water line that could inadvertently be driven over by a parent, leading it its damage ($$$) and needed repair (i.e. school delay or closure). There is also a temporary phone line that was put in to replace broken line from last week. and it is vulnerable.
- There is a definite safety risk in the Lower Lot due to construction equipment, power lines, the water line, etc. The parish explicitly does NOT want us to park down there in order to keep everyone safe.
- Last but not least, you should avoid being like Mrs. Stern and getting a VERY flat tire. (I admit it - I went rogue before I knew the rationale...and my tire was oh-so-flat.)
The construction crew plans to start shutting the gate 90% of the time to discourage people from parking down in the Lower Lot. If it's open 10%, though, don't misinterpret it as an invite to park!
Thursday, August 15th: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (No School)
Side note: Don't forget to come back on Friday!
Student Handbook
- The Statement of Acceptance sheets are pink and were handed out at Orientation. (We have extras if yours was eaten or otherwise went missing.) Once you've read through the handbook (which is no War and Peace but might take 30 minutes or so), families should sign the sheet and return it to the school office OR your child's teacher.
- Sheets are due by August 29th: Back to School Night!
Back to School Night
Come to hear more about what your child is learning, see his/her classroom, and hobnob with teachers and fellow parents!

Volunteer Opportunities
STAR Testing Set-Up/Break-Down: Help Needed!
If you're able to help set up our mobile laptop lap pre-testing or disassemble it post-testing, your help would be very much appreciated! Please contact Mrs. Sanchez or Mrs. Stern to volunteer your services.
When: August 19th (set up for Upper School), August 20th (set up for Lower School), and/or August 20th (take down/put away). All work would be done after school is dismissed for the day.
Why: To help the testing flow smoothly for students and teachers.
What: Moving and plugging in laptops, ensuring the correct link is loaded, and troubleshooting computers that are on the fritz or need updates.
Fundraising: Sell One Ticket to Baseball with the Bishop and help us with our Raffle Basket
Each student will be given ONE BLUE RAFFLE TICKET by their homeroom teacher to sell for $5. They then bring the money and stub to their homeroom teacher by September 10th.
The theme for our school's basket will be a New Mexican Breakfast/Brunch Basket. Details will come soon, but be on the lookout if you'd like to help.
All proceeds go to the Promise For Our Future Gala/Fundraiser sponsored by the Archdiocese to help each school with scholarship funds.
