Carver Elementary
Family Engagement Edition November 2023
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are thankful for you!
As we prepare to take time off from school on November 23 and 24th for the Thanksgiving break, we are grateful for everyone who has helped to restore a routine for showing up to school while supporting students and families.
Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security for students and adults. Please take steps to keep your child healthy and send them to school unless they are truly sick. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.
We thank:
- Our students and their families who do their best to show up to class every day even when it isn’t easy.
- Our teachers who have gone above and beyond to help make school a welcoming learning environment where students can thrive.
- Our administrators who help us work together to ensure we are healthy and safe, feel a sense of community and experience the excitement of an engaging learning environment.
- Our many, many healers and helpers - the support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
May these days off be restful and healing.
● If your family or your child needs support, please reach out to us at 508-866-6210 for help.
● We look forward to seeing you again when school resumes on Monday, November 27, 2023
Thank you for partnering with us!
Sincerely,
Ruby C. Maestas

Attendance Matters
HELP YOUR CHILD SUCCEED IN SCHOOL:
Build the Habit of Good Attendance Early
DID YOU KNOW?
- Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
- Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few weeks.
- Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
- Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school--and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.

Year at a Glance
FACULTY AND STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to our Faculty Member of the Month - Mrs. Leslie O'Reilly and to our Staff Member of the Month - Ms. Diana Dennen.
MRS. O'REILLY
Goals: As a teacher and as an individual I want to be a lifelong learner. I enjoy
learning and reading about new topics.
Accomplishments: My greatest accomplishments are my children. My world revolves around them.
Motivation: My family motivates me daily. They make me strive to be the best version of me.
Favorite Things: I love going on small adventures, but I am a homebody at heart. I find happiness taking walks on my neighborhood nature path, and finding time to watch movies.
Motto to live by: It can be challenging to have a work balance, and to juggle all aspects of motherhood. I am learning to take things slow, and enjoy small moments more.
MS. DENNEN
I have been working with children for the past 23 years and this is my 5th year here at Carver Elementary School. I have loved every minute of my time working here. Every day I walk through the doors of this school, it is my goal to bring positive support and create safe supportive connections with both the students and staff members. One of my favorite quotes by Pamela Lyndon Tavares is, “In order to fly you have to have something solid to take off from.” Our students will achieve their highest potential when given a solid foundation of safety and support. This is something I work on every day at home with my own children. I am inspired by the work this school community does to create a safe environment for its students. A little goes a long way. You never know when a moment of care and kindness could be just what someone needs. That is how I choose to live my life every day.
