Eagles' Nest
Family edition - May 2019
Principal's Message
WMS Families,
May is already here! The finish line is in sight! It is hard to believe it is time to wrap up the school year!
We will kick off the first full week of May celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week! I truly appreciate the hard work my staff members have put in throughout the year and am appreciative of the time and effort outside of the school day dedicated to grading papers, planning lessons, and collaborating with colleagues to enrich our students' educational experience at WMS! I encourage you or your child to reach out to a teacher who has had a positive influence on them during their school career. Not only does it make the teacher feel good, you feel good too!
As we begin to wrap up the year, it is a great time to reflect on the strengths of your child, an area they feel they really grew over the year, and a goal they want to make for themselves next year. Reflection can be a powerful tool to help with self-awareness; a key for students to find out who they are, who they want to be, and what truly brings them happiness. If, as adults, we are able to model this behavior, we continue to learn and grow, which inspires kids to do the same...which is what I think Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young were getting at with their hit Teach Your Children back in 1970.
I would like to thank you again for all of your support throughout the year. I feel very fortunate working in a such a great school community!

WMS Cares!
The 7th grade ELA students raised $1841 in cash and gift card donations this year for the APA of Missouri!! Additionally, we have collected many items from the APA's Wishlist.
The NJHS and STUCO members led a personal care drive. Items donated by our students go to local families in need! This year, we raised over 2600 items! Way to go!
The students did a wonderful job this year and we couldn't be more proud for helping our local community!
From the PTO!
As we wrap up the school year we would like to thank all of the parents for a great year. Each of you have help to make it a great year for the students and the teachers. I would like to thank Jennie Picha for serving as PTO President for the 2018/2019 year. She did a great job leading the PTO and coming up with great activities for the students. And I would like to thank Allison Agnew for serving as the Secretary. You both will be missed. Next year we welcome Tara Archer and Erin Nicoletti to the board.
If you have any questions or are interested in PTO, please contact me.

Eiffel Tower STEM Challenge!
Although this website is an example of younger children doing this, you can personalize the activity to fit any geographic location. Going to Washignton D.C.? Have them make the Washington Monument. Headed to Seattle? Create the Space needle! Or, are you a staycation family? Create some well-known monuments from around town, like the Arch!
