MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear CMS Families,
Happy New Year! I hope this message finds you and your families in good health and high spirits as we welcome the start of a new year. We are thrilled to have our students back for the second half of the school year, and we are looking forward to the exciting opportunities and achievements that lie ahead.
As many of you know, the Cleveland Browns recently secured TWO impressive victories, a PLAYOFF BERTH and the excitement among our students is contagious. The BROWNS EXTRA RECESSES will be scheduled for next week. I am already starting to plan our SUPER BOWL celebration!
MAP REPORTS
Students were provided a copy of their Winter reading and math MAP progress reports today. If you have any questions or concerns about the report, please contact their teacher.
PBIS INCENTIVE
Today, students who earned zero classroom strikes in the second quarter were able to attend a Jeopardy-style game show event in the LGIR. The categories were Caring, Mindful, and Solution-Focused, and each question was geared toward songs, movies, or concepts related to those three categories. Students were awarded candy for their outstanding behavior during second quarter, and everyone had a great time! We will be another reward at the end of third quarter for students who earn zero strikes. We are very pleased and proud to report that over 75% of the students at CMS earned zero strikes! Way to #TopperUp!!!!
SLEDDING DURING RECESS!!!
We want to ensure that every child has a fantastic and comfortable experience, so please help us by ensuring your child is properly geared up for winter fun.
Sledding Gear Checklist:
- Snow pants
- Boots
- Winter jacket
- Gloves or mittens
- Hat/Hood
Students will be denied the privilege's of sledding if they are not properly dressed. Sled rides in shorts and a sweatshirt can make for a chilly and uncomfortable afternoon.
As you can see from the video below, IT IS A GOOD TIME AT RECESS!!
LOST AND FOUND
In the event that your child misplaces any winter gear, please encourage them to check the lost and found area immediately. Labeling your child's belongings can also help us reunite them with their items more efficiently.

7th GRADE SCIENCE
In 7th grade science we cover how energy isn't created or destroyed, it is only converted to another form of energy. For this challenge, students were introduced to the candle wheel, also known as a candle pyramid, and viewed several examples. Students were then challenged to construct a candle wheel with the given supplies and try to get it to rotate the most times in one minute. Many students on both team A and B were able to successfully create a candle wheel, but Reese and Valentina were able to get their candle wheel to rotate 81 times in one minute. They followed the engineering design process and continued to modify, including asking to test their candle wheel in a location in which breezes from students walking by would not hinder the spinning of their wheel.
Energy Transformation Demonstrated:
Chemical energy in the candle to thermal and light energy where the thermal energy is transferred by convection to mechanical energy causing the wheel to spin
