Purple Team Social Studies Driven Field Trip to Springfield, Illinois April 28th. Here is the form if you have not received one from your student. Field Trip Permission Slip.
This trip will take students to several historic sites on a coach bus; as well as a buffet pizza lunch at Pizza Ranch. Several chaperones are needed for the trip. Please read the form carefully to sign up to be a volunteer. This trip will be an all day trip leaving at 6:45 AM and returning around 6:00 PM. We look forward to spending the day with your students. Permission slips due in the office by March 27th.- Yearbook order forms were distributed to students yesterday afternoon. Yearbooks are $18.00 and orders are due by Friday, February 28th. You can place your order online at https://sales.yearbookmarket.com/stores/hixsonmiddleschool/products/773?pidx=0 or your student can turn in their envelope with payment to Ms. Baker in the main office.
- OPUS (Orchestra Parents United for Students), the parent booster organization for the WGSD middle and high school orchestras, is hosting a trivia night and silent auction to be held on February 1 at Shrewsbury Community Center. The event is a fundraiser for general orchestra program needs and orchestra trips. Details and a registration link are at

Social Studies- Dr. Rachal
In Dr. Rachal’s class this week students finished their Personal Finance unit vocabulary, and began an online financial learning activity through the site Banzai. Students learn to create and manage a budget through a fixed simulation, then a choice simulation. Students will begin lessons about taxes and income and how to save for the future and emergencies.
ELA- Mr. Gasparovic
In Mr. Gasparovic’s class, students continued work on their theme writing, focusing on introductions, conclusions, and counter-arguments. On Friday, students will finalize their drafts in preparation for their theme writing summative next week; students will review the components of theme writing and then take a two-day writing assessment. On Wednesday & Thursday, students took the NWEA assessment.
Social Studies- Mr. Gasparovic
In Mr. Gasparovic’s class, students started to play the Stock Market game, creating a portfolio, checking for trends in the financial world, etc. In addition, student had mini-lessons which covered Stock Market basics and Stocks, as well as a reading over Capitalism. Next week we will dive into financial vocabulary and literacy.
