About Me:
I am a first year teacher. Before coming here, I was a substitute teacher for 3 years in Vigo County and then spent 3 years as an education assistant at Honey Creek middle school. I decided I really wanted to finish my degree and teach, so I began classes at Western Governor's University (WGU). As part of my degree, I had to student teach and chose this school to do that at. That lead me to a long term subbing position here at NCHS, which lead to an Education Assistant position, which then lead to me teaching my first official year here!
Previous Experience:
I subbed for an Algebra 1 class for 1/4 of a year and a FACS class for 3/4 of a year.
I Am Most Excited to...
I am hoping to incorporate real world activities into our lessons and not just stick with solving problems on paper.
Hobbies & Interests:
I enjoy reading sci-fi and fantasy books, and my favorite authors are Stephen King and Michael Crichton. My favorite shows are The Walking Dead and Master Chef. I also like to crochet!
Pets:
I have 3 dogs and 11 cats. My favorites are my cats Fluff and Bear!

I have been married for 28 years to my husband David, and we have a daughter, Amanda.
Previous Experience:

My Love of the Job:
I love being back at the grade level I was trained to teach, and I love teaching history. The last few years I have spent at Northeast North, and the students are great there, but while I miss the hugs, I am back where I am supposed to be!

Tammy Stultz
About Me:
I attended Indiana State University after high school and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. I worked at ISU for about 9 years in Telecommunications. After staying home with my children, I was a substitute teacher for about 11 years and an academic interventionist and in a special education classroom for the past 6 years. I have always had a desire to go back to school to get my teaching license. Last year, I decided to complete a Transition to Teaching through Indiana Wesleyan University. I am very excited to be at Northeast North Elementary. I love the students and staff and feel very blessed to be a part of this community.
Photo: This family photo is from Mother's Day. It includes my husband, Kent, and my two sons, Gregory (24) and Graham (20).
Previous Experience:
This is my first full time teaching position. However, I have completed several long-term substitute teaching positions. All of my experience has been in the Vigo County School Corporation. I have had long term positions at Fuqua Elementary (3rd grade and Kindergarten), Hoosier Prairie Elementary (1st grade), Rio Grande (elementary music), Wilson Middle School (choir teacher), and many other elementary schools in Vigo County as a substitute teacher.
Love of the Job:
I really enjoy the kids. It is my desire to show children that I care about them. I want them to feel loved, welcomed, and included in my classroom. The staff at Northeast North has also been wonderful. Being a first-year teacher, I have had to ask lots of questions, and everyone has been so helpful to me. From conduct charts to organizing files on my computer, there has been a teacher there to help me whenever needed.
Classroom Goal This Year:
I'm not sure if this is something I will accomplish this year, but I would like to send 49 Indiana postcards from our students to one school in each of the other 49 states. The students would write the postcards and include some information about the state of Indiana. We would then ask the schools from the other states to return a postcard from their state to our classroom. Thus, hoping to receive 49 postcards (one from each state other than Indiana). A friend of mine who is a fifth-grade teacher, shared this idea with me.
Personal Interests & Hobbies:
I love to watch HGTV. In fact, it gave me so many ideas we decided to complete a kitchen/family room remodel over the summer. I also enjoy playing the piano and singing harmony with my family. I have been involved in my church's music program for the past 30 years and have directed the church choir, planned worship services, and organized groups and musicals.
Nicole Weir
About Me:
I have worked at NEEE for 11 years now. I began subbing when my youngest son went to kindergarten. Prior to that I had been a stay at home mom to my two boys. After 2 years of subbing , I was hired as an aide in 2nd grade. I then moved to the resource room where I worked as a paraprofessional for 7 years. I recently graduated from WGU with a degree in Elementary and Special Education.
Previous Experience:
During my student teaching, I had the opportunity to teach in the resource room at NC Jr. High and the 1st grade at East Elementary. I am enjoying the opportunity to help parents as they navigate the special education process. I love creating lesson plans that meet each student's needs at their individual level.
A Glimpse Inside the Classroom:
I have worked hard to create a positive learning environment for all of my students. I have flexible seating options, positive attitude posters, an affirmation mirror, sensory items, etc. This is a work in progress, and I have created a project on Donors Choose to add to my flexible seating.
The project title is "A Seat For Everyone," and here is the link: https://www.donorschoose.org/project/a-seat-for-everyone/6526521/?utm_source=dc&utm_medium=directlink&utm_campaign=project&utm_term=unknown&rf=directlink-dc-2022-09-project-unknown
Personal Interests & Hobbies:
My spare time is mostly filled with spending time with family, floating in the pool, or binge watching Netflix. I also enjoy watching "The Crown" on Netflix.
My family's trip to Gatlinburg, TN this past summer!
Jacob Cummings
About Me:
After graduating high school from Terre Haute North, I attended Oakland City University where I majored in English Education with a minor in Sociology. OCU provided many wonderful opportunities, starting with a scholarship to continue playing the sport I love in basketball, and I also earned my Master's in Teaching through a graduate assistant program. From there, my first teaching job was at Mt. Carmel HS in Illinois, which I left the following year for a job right here at NC. That fall of 2005 I met a beautiful lady named Lyndsey who later became my wife, and we have 2 wonderful children, Kennedy (9) and Cooper (8), who fill our lives with joy each and every day! In 2018, I left NC to explore opportunities elsewhere, and after 4 years of ups and downs, I longed for a return to a place I could call "home" again. Fortunately, that opportunity presented itself here at NC, and now I am the new media specialist, assisting a little with volleyball, and loving life!
A Glimpse Inside the Media Center:
I have been giving the media center a mini makeover by removing outdated/irrelevant books and bringing a wider collection of novels, with the current focus being on nonfiction narrative and graphic novels. I have a small team of library and digital media students who assist with book processing, game programs, this very newsletter, and many more projects throughout the course of the year such as Voice & Vision, reading programs, holiday bookmarks, and more! I am very excited about it and can't wait to share it with the students, staff, and community!
Personal Interests & Hobbies:
I enjoy coaching and watching sports, reading, biking, watching Game of Thrones, Cobra Kai, and Rings of Power, listening to music (most genres), and of course, spending time with family and friends. Plus, ever since we passed on job opportunities in Destin, Florida back in 2019, Lyndsey and I have made it a point to travel as much as possible, mainly to the beach, where we can create as many memories as possible for our family!

Shakamak State Park Trip!
The North Central High School National Honor Society and High Ability students took a field trip to Shakamak State Park on Friday, September 23, 2022. They were led by Mrs. Siscoe, Mrs. Asche, and Mrs. Edwards.
To begin the day, students met in the nature center, where they learned about the history of the park, including the Civilian Conservation Corps’ building of many structures around the park during the Great Depression. Next, the students took a 1.5 mile hike across the dam separating Lakes Kickapoo and Shakamak. They saw a blue heron along the way and stopped at the 4-Post Shelters, built by the CCC. After the hike, students participated in an identification activity, working to name various trees native to Indiana. Next, they cut open persimmon seeds to predict our Indiana winter; many spoons forecast a snowy winter! After lunch, students raced against each other in a scavenger hunt to find various historical locations around the park. Congratulations to Maggie Scott, Grace Scott, Abbie Morris, Kayla Goldsworthy for their first place finish!
The weather was perfect for all of the activities. The Thunderbirds would like to thank the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for their generosity in awarding us a grant to make this trip possible.
Senior Visit Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College!
Beta Club Leadership Summit!
The North Central Beta Club participated in the Leasership Summit September 19 & 20 in Bowling Green, KY. Ten students competed against other Beta Clubs from Kentucky and Indiana. NCHS qualified for Nationals in all three events: Collaboration Connection, Lead Outside the Box, and Project Proposal. Way to go Betas! Maggie Scott also ran for Leadership Representative against 9 other Betas. Although the outcome was not what we wanted, Maggie did a wonderful job representing the NCHS Beta Club. I am so proud of her! NCHS should be very proud of these students!

Ernie Pyle Museum Field Trip!
Mrs. Myers’ Indiana Literature Class visited the Ernie Pyle Museum Friday, September 9 in Dana, Indiana. This class focuses on Indiana notables; students team, choose a notable from a pre-set list, research the notable, and present an in-depth multimedia presentation, along with an activity to augment the presented information. Rodney Grabbe, Briar Eyre, and Cameron Fagg presented their team project about Ernie Pyle and his accomplishments prior to the field trip, so the students had excellent foundation information. If you haven’t visited the museum, it is worth the trip!
8th Grade Raft Trip!
On Tuesday, September 27, North Central 8th grade students attended the annual raft trip that is sponsored by the Sullivan Soil and Water Conservation District. Students rafted from Hutsonville to Merom Bluff where they ate a picnic lunch. After lunch, the students rotated through six stations where they learned about topics such as trees, erosion control, Native Americans, water filtration, and invasive plants. The students had a great time on the trip! They will spend the next few weeks writing essays about their experiences for a chance to win $100 from the Sullivan Soil and Water Conservation District. Two winners will be selected from North Central.
Drone & Tractor Experience!
New Electric Trainers for Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing Classes!
Students in Mr. Ransford’s Robotics 2 and Advanced Manufacturing classes will be utilizing new electrical trainers this year. The trainers are from Learn Lab and feature topics such as house wiring, industrial electrical wiring, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), and safety such as Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
With the new trainers students will be able to learn real world skills to help with future employment opportunities. Students will also be earning dual credit through Ivy Tech as part of the class.
The new trainers were purchased as part of a Stem Grant in the spring with the help of Patty Walters and Jamie Huff.
NCHS Archery Program!
Mrs. Horn's physical education classes have done the NASPE (National Archery in the Schools Program) for many years. It is a lifelong sport in which all students can be successful, and some of our students even go on to be on the archery team!
Last school year Mrs. Horn requested supplies, including much needed arrows, through Donors Choose in a project called, "Archery in Schools Maintenance." The project got funded through generous donors which consist of parents and businesses, and it has helped the program out tremendously. Several teachers in the corporation use Donors Choose to fund projects. It is a great organization to use to contribute to our corporation teacher's projects.
Mrs. Horn has had 37 donors over 15 years contribute a total of $ 4,943.56. If you would like to donate to Mrs. Horn's classroom you can use this link: Click here to donate to go to Mrs. Horn's Donors Choose Teacher Page
"We Care" Closet!
North Central Jr/Sr High School would like to introduce to our students, parents, and guardians our new “We Care” Closet. This idea originated at a teacher’s meeting in a discussion about our students' needs and developed into what we believe will be an amazing way for us to help our “kids." Because we care, we have created a “closet” that includes any item that they might need. Whether it is clothes, shoes, hygiene products, school supplies, or even food for snacks at school or weekends at home, we will have it all, and it is FREE!
With the help of some very generous donors, we hope to be able to fulfill the needs of all of our students, no matter what they are. If a student has a need, there are two ways they can make a request. Pictured is a card they can fill out and place in the box, both of which are located on the bulletin across from the main office. The other way is to use the link provided and fill out the Google Form. This information will be kept confidential and the student should choose, either on the card or on the Google Form, how they would like to receive the items they request. If a student has a need that is not listed, they may simply write it on the card or include it in the Google Form. Students may request items as often as they have a need. Once we get the request from the student, it should be filled within a couple days depending on inventory. Please do not be afraid to ask if you have a need - because we CARE!
