BCIT MEDFORD NEWSLETTER
DECEMBER 2015
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Season Greetings:
It is always amazing how fast the school year progresses as we are only days away from Winter Break. As usually BCIT-Medford is in full swing as winter sports kicks-off it season and the fall play just wrapped up its final show.
The BCIT-Medford staff just completed the Teacher of the Year process and the following staff members were nominated:
Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Holly Murrenburke
Educational Specialist of the Year: Mr. Jeff Pensabene
Teacher’s Aide of the Year: Mr. James Say
Please see the section below on the Teachers of the Year selections.
In January we will begin the last round of PARCC testing for the first semester. The testing sessions will run January 11th-15th. Make up sessions will be January 19th-21st. The PARCC testing schedule will be posted on the school calendar and Math and Language Arts instructors will communicate with their students the date and location.
Parents and students are reminded that our first semester Non-Credit make up sessions will be in January. All students that are currently on non-credit status should have met with their counselors to discuss their attendance status and to review the credit make-up sessions. The dates for credit make-up are posted under the school calendar on our web page.
Once again the BCIT family would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break.

Skills-USA: Medford Tech
The SkillsUSA Championships begin at the local level with contests in classrooms nationwide. Winners advance through district, regional, and state competition, and only the best make it to the national event. Students benefit no matter how they place in their contests. They test their skills, frequently make job contacts, and have a chance for recognition. State and national winners receive gold, silver, and bronze medals, scholarships, tools, leadership development material, and other awards.
Here at BCIT-Medford, we will be having our annual Skills- In house competitions on January 8, 2016. Individual career major shops will be conducting their own competitions to decide who will go to the states in the spring.
Haines Family Foundation provides state-of-the-art SimSpray unit!
SimSpray is a complete unit that simulates most aspects of the complex process of auto body painting. The weight of the paint wand is similar to an actual paint wand, the sounds mimic an actual paint sprayer, and the simulation helmet;s visuals make the user feel like a car panel is propped right in front of them. One important factor is missing: paint. While SimSpray imitates the process, it does not require a continual supply of costly, chemical-based material.
Today's teens are raised on high-tech video games; this SimSpray unit will appeal to them. They are already familiar with its touch-screen panel; they are intrigued by its simulation headgear; and they are challenged to improve when they see their detailed "score" at the end of each experience-rich round.
The Haines Family Foundation, a local organization with roots in Burlington County's cranberry production, has been a steady supporter of BCIT. This grant is the latest to support the school with education-based technology. The SimSpray is expected to arrive at BCIT Medford in February 2016.
