Dolphin News You Can Use
Volume 4: September 2022
Principal's Message
Your children continue to impress me in their manners. They are rocking hallway behavior and working hard in their classrooms.
Mrs. Peters and I are reviewing our rainy dismissal plan in collaboration with our LCISD police officer, Mr. Nash and staff to be sure we have a safe dismissal plan in place. Thank you for your patience the other day!
Mrs. Peters and I are so appreciative of all the sweet messages in emails or in person about the campus climate. At Dickinson, it is our commitment to you that we follow the LCISD Promise to Parents which means we model what we expect of our students and staff. We have the best around here at our school. It is posted below for your reference.
As a friendly reminder this newsletter is organized with New Information at the top. Repeated Information below that, following PTO updates, and ends with important dates.

Rainy Day Dismissal
- Rainy day dismissal will be called no later than 2:45 and a Skylert message will be sent.
- For safety measures, no student will be allowed to walk or ride their bike home.
- Every walker or bike rider should have an alternate way of getting home on rainy dismissal days.
- Walk in pick-ups during dismissal of walkers and bikers will not be processed in the front office until the car rider line is completed. The process will start around 3:10.This will allow the staff to focus on getting the traffic moved smoothly and quickly.
- Recommendation is to have your child be a car rider and get in line no later than 2:55.
- Having students ride the bus is always a great way to alleviate stress during rainy days as well.
As a campus, we will monitor these procedures and notify you should a change happen with this process. Our top priority, is to get every child home safely. Thank you for your understanding!

All students in their classrooms before 7:30 will receive either a dolphin dollar that they may trade in to their teacher for a reward.
Attendance will be take at 9:45 this school year. Please do your best to refrain from making appointments during the school day if possible. Please check in with your child's teacher on the best time to schedule if needed.
Lamar CISD Safety Overview
The district Communications team has produced a safety video for our LCISD's families. This video highlights the safety standards that have been in place and what additions have been implemented this year. To access the safety video, CLICK HERE.
New ID Badge Requirements / SMART TAGS
Message from our district:
This year, as an increase to our safety measures, students and staff are required to wear their identification badge at all times. Student badges will serve as the student ID and SmartTag all in one card.
We will also provide all students and staff with an emergency safety card to be worn with their ID Badge. This requirement is just one of several new safety additions that we are incorporating this year. The safety card contains Lamar CISD's Standard Response Protocol, important emergency numbers, as well as a QR code that links directly to the District's anonymous tip line. Badges will be distributed with student SMART Tags.
It is significantly important to register your child's Smart Tag in the system which provides a great deal of additional information should your student ride the bus or for safety reasons be relocated following a major crisis occurring on campus. Click on this link to learn more about this process: https://www.lcisd.org/departments/support-services/transportation/smart-tag-information
Please send your child's old SMART tag to school if they have it. A new one will be processed soon.

A Special Message from our PTO...
Join the PTO! Our annual Membership Drive kicks off at Meet the Teacher on August 16 thru September 23. There are several membership levels to choose from. Joining the PTO does NOT mean you are sentencing yourself to hours of free labor...unless you want to, ha! We use 100% of the membership funds raised (along with all of our other fundraisers throughout the year) to support the school, our students and teachers.
Did you know that the PTO is responsible for paying for all of the school field trips? Field Day, HMNS Science Night, Yearbook creation, Field Day, campus improvements? Yes, that's from us too! We even offer every single teacher and support staff their own classroom budget to use as needed. Even our very own Sue the Dolphin is a gift from the PTO. Bottom line: we need YOU! We accept monetary donations, volunteer hours, participation in Spirit Nights, Trunk or Treat and more. Please email president@dickinsonpto.com with any questions!
Spirit Nights
Here's the scoop on Spirit Nights: once a month, the PTO partners with a local restaurant to raise money for our school programs and teachers! 20% of the sales made on September 14 come back to us! So dine in, carry-out or order for delivery - anyway you do it, be sure and mention Dickinson Elementary so we get credit!
But best of all...no cooking that night!
SAVE THE DATE!
It's getting spooky at Dickinson!
Mark your calendars for Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 28 from 5pm-7pm in the Dickinson Back Parking Lot.
Tickets will go on sale October 1, but in the meantime, be thinking about hosting a Trunk this year if you dare (prizes are involved)! We will be posting ideas throughout the month of September on our Instagram stories @dickinsonelementarypto
We also want to partner with your local businesses! There are several ways to support Dickinson AND your own companies and projects. Contact president@dickinsonpto.com to talk about Sponsorship opportunities at Trunk or Treat this year.
