Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

7TE have been creating World War 1 fact-files to help them better understand the context of the poetry of Wilfred Owen. We listened to wartime music from around the world, and students used their research and creative skills to produce excellent fact-files. Here is a selection from Mason, Declan, Daria, Jennifer and Finley.

Subject Highlights:
Maths:
Mrs Ferns would like to say well done to all Year 7 students who have completed their end of year assessments in Maths. Their behaviour and attitude was excellent.
Music:
Year 7 - A special mention to Kinga, Terrie and Kade from 7SW for their outstanding listening skills in music this week. Miss Patrick also really enjoyed listening to Tyler’s hook for his pop song in an AABA structure – well done!
Year 8 - Linards in 8TE showed fantastic concentration during our drumming lesson this week and has made really good progress with his technique.
Maya (8TE) answered some complex questions, and applied her knowledge of dotted rhythms well.
Year 9 - The whole of 9TE performed an excellent ukulele cover of George Michael’s ‘Faith’ at the end of the lesson, with most students attempting the complex strumming pattern. Miss Patrick has also been especially impressed with how amazing 9TE are at keeping in time with the music and muting their ukuleles at the right time – great work everybody!
English:
Mrs Brown has been discussing Lord of the Flies, political and contextual links with her Year 8 class. Well done to the class for some excellent discussion work. Special praise to: Roman G, Kurtis M, Max H, Mihai D, Rene H, Nicolas V for great contributions to the debate.
Year 9 have been studying the context of the poem 'Charge of the Light Brigade'. Fantastic knowledge shown by the whole class, but especially Timotheos, Alex B, Jaasau, Danils, Kia and Louis M.
Mrs Brown and Miss Vye would like to say a big well done to 10AP2 for showing such resilience in the GCSE English assessment. So many of the group managed the time well and managed to finish the whole paper. Special mention to George S, Alicja S, Chloe S and Josie Y for some great outcomes. Well done on your hard work!
Mrs Brown would like to say "thank you" to the English and Literacy classes she has covered this week. Mrs Brown really enjoyed meeting 8TE for a fantastic lesson on media stereotypes and 7SW, where we looked at the context to the First World War. Both groups really impressed with their effort.
Ms Hallybone would like to say well done to Holly (10CO) for an excellent revision session during tutor time.
Ms Hallybone has also nominated Sean and Kevin in 7TE for excellent contributions in English.
Miss Magnay would like to say well done to 10BP1 for completing their English assessments. They have worked extremely hard! Also nominated are Year 9 who have been analysing war poetry, special mention to Emily, Mason, Sean, Jess and Szymon.
Humanities:
Mrs Vaghadia has nominated the following this week:
7A2 English for their excellent participation and work in the lessons. You all have been working super hard in the lesson well done. 9AY English in particular Olivia, Bo, Ella for their excellent work this week and finally, Year 10 Sociology class for working super hard in the lesson and showing resilience and perseverance with the 15 mark questions in the lesson.
KS3 students have undertaken Geography assessments and Mr Gealy and the team have been really pleased with the students' attitude and approach to the assessments. In particular, Year 9.
9SW had an excellent week this week looking at voting and the democratic system in the UK with Miss Bird. They had some fab debates surrounding the voting age being lowered to 16. The group managed to come up with some excellent arguments for and against the law change.
Well done to Antonio (7TA) for his success in the Geography assessment and finally 8TE’s art and super heroes have impressed Miss Bird this week – especially Caden impressive hero figure.
DT/Food Technology:
Mr Harley has nominated Ann Marie in 7CU for her excellent restaurant design ideas in DT. Also nominated are Dolton and Saul in Year 10 GCSE Design & Technology who have made an excellent start to their non-exam course work and Dylan in Year 12 for his dedication and hard work in Engineering.
Science:
There was excellent work by the Year 10’s who have completed all their Science assessments.
Well done to the Year 11 students involved with the transition lessons this week, the Science team cannot wait to see you all in the face to face sessions next week.
The Science department would like to say a big well done to all of Year 7 for their fantastic work during the practical lessons so far this term. This week Year 7 have been analysing the effectiveness of old style and new style plastic bags.
PE:
PE students of the week are:
Aleksandra 7TA, Natalia 8TE, Cameron H 9CA, Courtney 10SW. Sport Science is Ryan 10TE and Year 12 Sport and Physical Activity is Macauley.
MFL:
Miss Graziano has nominated Ella, Charley, Melissa, Anna, Keira, Corina, Sanita and Thomas (9SW) for fantastic effort on their Spanish writing assessment, Miss Graziano is really proud of their effort. Also nominated are Lara, Aston, Finn and Florence (7TE) for fantastic pieces of writing in Spanish.
Mrs Sahota has nominated Hermione P, Ruby H, Kirat G, Ugne M, Amy W, Tyler, Layla L, Aleksandra A, Ryan B, Dominik, Antonio M, Mia O, Nikola and Joanna C from Year 7TA Spanish. Mrs Sahota has been very impressed with all of their hard work and focus and they have achieved good results in their recent writing assessment. Well done. Keep up the great work! Also nominated are 8TA Spanish, in particular, Louisa S, Toby R, Cole B, Sandra S, Mary M, Arina M, Gretil and Greta, who have made fantastic progress this term and achieved great results in their recent writing assessment. Well done!
