BAKER ELEMENTARY

Welcome Mrs Cimek
Hello and welcome to a bright school year!
I am humbled and honored to accept the position as Interim Principal at Baker Elementary School. I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grades and recently moved into administration as the Assistant Principal at Dorr Elementary. I am more than happy to be supporting Baker staff and students through this transition.
That said, it is wonderful to have children back in the halls. They have been missed so much.
Thank you for assisting us with many beginning of the year procedures we have put in place for our "Safe Schools: Return to School Road Map". We appreciate the at home "Health Screener" you are doing, sending your child with a mask, following our new systems as we work through them, and the positivity you send our way.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Mrs. Rachel Cimek

Google Classroom
Google Classroom is a platform we are using as a district for remote days of learning. This can be accessed via app on your child's IPAD using their school email. This is where teachers may post lessons, activities, directions to games, etc. Youtube is a great friend when trying to troubleshoot! Please be patient the first few weeks while we learn this platform together.

Help Rooms Available Through Zoom
Zoom help rooms are available Mon, Tue, Thurs and Fri, 8:30-3:00. Contact your child's teacher if you need the Meeting ID and password to a help Zoom room.
Spare Mask & Spare Clothing
It is also a really good idea to send a spare change of clothing in the backpack. Having an extra set of clothes on hand is very helpful. Learning new routines will take time. If a child is on the playground and needs to use the bathroom, it takes a lot more time this year to assist a child back to their classroom bathroom. Please help us by reminding your child to use the bathroom before school and also to remind them to try to use the classroom bathrooms before their class goes to recess each day.

Kelso's Choice
School social worker and counselor at Baker Elementary, Alexis Prins, wants to help all students learn how to peacefully and appropriately handle conflict. With the help of Kelso and his Choice Wheel, the students at Baker Elementary will be taught several positive ways to deal with conflicts. At school the students will be taught the difference between big problems and little problems. Students will be reminded they need an adult's help to solve big problems but they can try to solve little problems on their own or with the help of Kelso and Lilly, our friendly frogs!
This school year we want to give students the opportunity to learn how to use their conflict resolution skills at home. We have all experienced difficulties during this time and using Kelso’s Wheel might be a great way to help students manage their emotions, resolve conflicts, be kind, patient, and inclusive to their peers and siblings.
ALL Children Can Now Eat FREE!!
The USDA and MDE announced some very big news for WUS families with children in the district! Effective immediately, ALL BREAKFASTS and LUNCHES are FREE to ALL CHILDREN!!
WHO: ALL Children 18 and Under (yes, even children that are not yet enrolled in the district!)
WHAT THIS MEANS GOING FORWARD:
Students eating meals at school will no longer be charged for those meals. This includes breakfast meals and lunch meals EVERYDAY! This does NOT include a la carte purchases, entree-only purchases, or milk only purchases. Only FULL MEALS are FREE due to dietary guidelines.
For VIRTUAL learning days when students are at home, WUS will still be offering meals to be picked up at the school on Wednesdays to be enjoyed at home when students are learning remotely. The VIRTUAL MEAL ORDER FORMS still need to be filled out once per week per child to order these meals. However, due to the new eligibility guidelines, ALL children can now enroll in this service as long as they are 18 years or younger. Additionally, WUS can now provide a full week's worth of meals per child...meaning non-school age children and all VAAC students will receive 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches; all HYBRID students will receive 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches per week. Pick up will continue to occur every Wednesday at the FAC from 11:30am-12:30pm. Please be sure to SIGN UP!
Any positive balance on your student's lunch account will remain available to your student. Purchases can still be made by students during the school day through the cafeteria. Student accounts will continue to be charged for non-meal purchases, such as a la carte items, entree-only meals, and milk-only purchases.
