ABOUT PKVES
As we return to school it is CRITICAL that you read carefully all the electronic information that will be coming weekly. While we want to remain a warm and welcoming school, the safety of our students and staff take top priority! Therefore, I must bring the following items to your attention and let you that these will be strictly enforced.
1. All students and adults in the school building must wear a mask at all times. Students are to provide their own masks daily.
2 For the safety of those returning to school, Visitors (parents, grandparents, siblings) will not be allowed in the building. Parents may not walk students to class or visit the classroom or the cafeteria. Please take care of all school business with emails or a phone call to the office. According to RCPS COVID Health Plan, if it is critical that your enter the main office you will initiate that by buzzing the secretaries in the entry, state your business and then we will ask questions related to health screening, similar to those in the Daily Health Screening listed below. Only the adult having business will be allowed in, so please do not bring small children as we desperately trying to keep everyone healthy. Anyone entering the building must have a mask. Here is the complete plan for your review:
3. Parents must preform a "Daily Health Assessment" before sending you child to school. Please DO NOT send your child to school if any of the symptoms are present.
4. Parents Providing Transportation to and From School:
Thank you for providing transportation for your child as encouraged. No driver or parent should exit the car during drop off or pick up. DURING DROP AND PICK UP: PLEASE, DRIVE SLOWLY, TURN OFF CELL PHONE, STAY IN YOUR LANE, AND DRIVE VERY CAUTIOUSLY. Your child's safety is our number one concern.
5. Parents will NOT be allowed to make transportation changes for their student during the school day. Students MUST wear a mask on the school bus. No child can ride home on the bus with another child. No child can changes buses to ride to or from school. If a parent needs to take a child home early a note MUST be brought in with that child that morning. CDC guidelines on the buses are very strict.
Again thank you for your understanding and supporting the new procedures as we work hard to safely bring students back to school. I will do my best to update you as changes occur, but please reference RCPS website for complete details and updates.
Thank you for partnering with us during this time.
Sincerely,Peak View Staff
Mission Statement
Since education is a process of continuous development, it is our challenge to provide appropriate learning experiences that will enable our students to develop not only academic skills, but also the ability to think critically, exercise self-discipline, assume responsibility, and display good citizenship.
The staff of Peak View Elementary School is excited about education and is constantly learning and growing. We believe in a positive and nurturing environment. We accept the responsibility to teach our students so that they can obtain their maximum educational potential. We encourage learning through independent thinking, personal expression and respect for each other. In order to carry out our educational mission, we need the commitment of our parents and community.
We invite parents to make suggestions regarding the school program. Your ideas will help us as we try to help this school meet the needs of the children in our community.
History
Peak View Elementary School was created in 2001 to form an elementary school to house students from the old Keezletown Elementary School. PKVES enrolls approximately 508 students for the current school year.
Peak View Elementary School building was started in the spring of 2000 and completed in the summer of 2001. Then in 2008, Peak View’s attendance area was redistricted to include approximately 125 new students from the south side of Port Republic Rd and approximately 20 students near Cross Keys Rd. This same year PKVES sent approximately 300 students from various communities to Cub Run Elementary School as part of the redistricting plan.
Peak View Elementary consists of forty-four classrooms, library, administrative offices, guidance, kitchen, gym, and cafeteria lunch room. Peak View Elementary School is comprised of students enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.
There is a playground area equipped with playground equipment, jogging track, and open space. This was constructed in the summer of 2001 by the Playground Committee. The playground area was resurfaced and a drainage area was added during the 2005-2006 school year as a joint effort of the school and PTA. In 2007, a swing set was added to the playground area. In the winter of 2010 a handicapped accessible swing set was placed in the Eastside courtyard.
