State Report Card
Dear Families,
Thank you for your interest and engagement in your child’s progress this year.
As you may be aware, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has released the 2017-18 state School Report Cards for all public schools in Wisconsin. I’m writing you today to share our scores and our vision moving forward.
The Report Cards are intended to help all schools and districts utilize data on specific measures to target improvement efforts to ensure students are ready for the next educational step – including the next grade level, graduation, college, and careers. According to the data, we met expectations for the 2017-18 school year with a score of 68.8. We are proud of our accomplishments; however, this data actually is a compilation of the past three years of tests that included the Forward Exam scores from 2016-2018.
It is important to remember that one test score taken on one day does not reflect your child’s overall progress. In fact, we are quite excited to report that we are continuing to grow in our team teaching model here at Prairie. We are continuing our work on making thinking visible by using thoughtful logs, and enhancing the discourse and intentional skill development in our small group instruction to meet the needs of our scholars on a daily basis.
Parents and families are an important part of the educational process. We encourage you to continue to support your child by communicating with educators, talking to your scholar about school, and continuing to infuse a love of reading into their nightly activities.
Lastly, we are committed to providing an engaging, student-centered environment that fosters the high academic, emotional, and social growth as stated in the Eye Of The Puma. We thank you for your continued support!
You can access Prairie’s School Report Card here. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any further questions.
Sincerely,
Dennis Griffin Jr.
Principal
Message from the Principal
Happy Thanksgiving, Parents and Guardians of the Pawsome Pumas,
On behalf of the entire Prairie Staff, I would like to say that we are thankful for every scholar and parent that walks into the doors of Prairie every day. Looking back, I am in awe of the fact that we are at the Thanksgiving Break. Where has the time gone? We are approximately three months into our team teaching model of instruction, and we are continuing to grow every day. We are spending time working on our small group instruction and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of our scholars. Here are a few additional examples of how we are better together.
Thank you to all of the families that came out to celebrate Imagination Night on Tuesday, November 13th. This year we have decided to combine our Literacy and Math Nights to give the scholars a learning experience that aligns with our message of Better Together.
The Student Council did an amazing job sharing the message that we can help keep our custodians safe, especially during the winter months, by refraining from kicking and throwing balls on top of the school roof.
This month our character trait is Respect. This character trait is significant to us as it is one of the pillars that we say every day during our morning announcements. The third grade did a marvelous rendition of R-E-S-P-E-C-T in kicking off the character trait for the month.
We want to thank Mr. Leon Martin, a former Prairie Parent and Current Store Manager for Office Depot, for embracing our Once A Puma, Always A Puma Mantra, by choosing Prairie to be the recipient of additional school supplies.
