Buckingham Spirit Assembly - Reverse Order
On April 8th, Buckingham Students and Staff celebrated 'Backwards/Inside Out" Day with a wonderful musical assembly titled Reverse The Trend. It was an Anti-Bullying concert and assembly created by the young band Reverse Order (featured on America's Got Talent in 2012). The band started the program by performing a few songs to excite and engage the students using popular music that all enjoyed. Reverse Order continued the assembly by sharing their individual stories of how they were bullied, and how they overcame it in a safe and productive way.

5th & 6th Grade PEN Students visit NASTAR Center
5th and 6th PEN students visited NASTAR Center on Monday, April 4th. NASTAR is a business located in Southampton that is known worldwide for researching, designing, and manufacturing flight and space training equipment. Students had the opportunity to tour the facility and learn about some of the equipment used to prepare astronauts for space, such as an altitude chamber and centrifuge. Students also had the opportunity to design and engineer some of their own creations! This trip served as a great connection to the 5th and 6th grade PEN unit about colonizing Mars.
NASTAR offers a variety of STEM camps for students of varying ages. If you are interested in these opportunities, please check out what they have to offer here: NASTAR STEM CAMPS

Senator McIlhinney Meets Buckingham Students to Discuss the Environment
After conducting research on the amount of waste created by the use and disposal of thin plastic grocery bags, one 6th grade PEN team wrote letters to their local legislators asking to address this growing concern to help protect our environment. The students, in favor of a instituting a ban on plastic bags in our area, got a response from Senator Chuck McIlhinney, representing the 10th District.
Senator McIlhinney took the time to come to Buckingham to meet with this group of students, listen to their concerns, and discuss the conversation currently taking place in the Pennsylvania Senate regarding this issue. The students enjoyed the opportunity to voice their concerns and enjoyed learning what they can do to help protect the environment! Thanks to Senator McIlhinney for taking the time to meet with our students!
