Literature of the week - A Poem by Shel Silverstein
Hug O' War
I will not play at tug O' war.
I'd rather play at hug O' war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins!

Teacher Of the Week Mrs.Weakley
- Why did you choose Daphne middle School? "Well, it was destiny really. While i was on my tour of the school I realized my room would be pink (pepto bismol pink!) and I loved it! It was such a bonus! And on top of the fact that the faculty at DMS is amazing! I am blessed to be here."
- What is your expectation for your students? "I will expose my students to many of the possible career options that will be ahead of them in the future. We will work on projects in each career cluster. I also expect that my students will be able to use various technology such as a heat press, a vinyl cutter and different programs on their computers."
- Have you ever taught or worked at a different school? How long have you been at DMS? "This is my first year at DMS, before that I taught Career Prep, Personal Finance and Microsoft Academy at Fairhope High School. Prior to that I taught business classes in Madison County Virginia"
- Why did you choose to be a teacher? "Well, I have 5 children, so teaching comes naturally to me. I've known for many years that this was my calling but I wasn't able to go back to school for my masters degree until later in life. Since being in the classroom, I've never been happier with my career!"
- What makes you unique as a teacher? "My students really love hearing all about my past. Because I came from the business world before teaching I have a lot of stories to tell. The one they love the most is when I tell of my Air Force days, being in Desert Storm and flying an F-4 Phantom Jet in the Philippines!"

Critical thinking is a big thing for us right now, as it should be. With TweenTribune, my students are improving reading skills, thinking about what they read, creating at the keyboard and practicing writing skills.
Their comments come to me for approval, so nothing inappropriate goes out. They cannot use last names, so they're safe. It's very user friendly and doesn't take much teacher time. AND when you have a problem, you can contact someone and they respond immediately!
I highly recommend it! Give it a whirl! Your students will really like it. I've had several ask if they could get on it at home!
