Lorenzo Walker Technical College
According to Yariel Vargas, “I’ve always wanted to be a pilot. I’m an adrenaline junkie and like anything that goes fast.” Yariel is one of the adult students in the Lorenzo Walker Technical College Aviation PowerPlant Mechanics and Aviation Airframe Mechanics program. This program is a full-time program. The program has a shop element usually held in the morning where students work on aviation equipment and in the afternoon are lectures in the classroom. Students are able to practice what they are learning in the classroom in the shop. Yariel originally wanted to attend another institution until a friend told him that they graduated from LWTC and they have an aviation program that would fit his needs. Not only does Yariel get to save money by attending a local college, but he is also able to have hands on experience from the certified instructor Mr. Singleton.
The below picture shows Yariel is working on rigging the carburetor because the cables are broken. The heat box or black box in the photo is the air intake for the carburetor and takes in hot and cold air.
Congratulations to our Student and Staff of the Month!
