We understand that some students / families are experiencing challenges with technology, Schoology, or desire more training and support to effectively navigate this remote learning phase. Thus, we ask you to please join us on Monday, November 23, 2020.
Our district experts will facilitate a training session just for you. We will start with the basics to help you effectively transition to remote learning. Topics will include:
· Logging into MiStar Parent Connect & Student Connect (Locate attendance and grades to monitor progress)
· Logging into Clever & Previewing the Resources Available
· Logging into to Schoology (accessing daily calendar, locating courses, accessing links for synchronous learning, submitting assignments, monitoring student progress, using Kami, etc.)
· Question & Answer Session

Opportunities for High School Students
Zonta Club of Southfield Area will be hosting a virtual scholarship informational meeting on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at 11 a.m. for young women 16 -19 years old for the 2021 Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award. All interested candidates should attend via this link.
The Southfield Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is committed to helping young people succeed academically. This includes ensuring that students have access to the financial resources they need to obtain a college education. Scholarships are available for graduating 2021 high school seniors. Apply here by January 29, 2021.
Guinness World Records Virtual Event
As you might have heard, we have a Guinness World Records virtual event that will be held during National CS Education Week in December. Our goal is to have over 15,000 participants including youth, adults and educators to help set the record for "Most users to take an online computer programming lesson within 24 hours".
It only takes 30-minutes to participate and you have 24 hours to submit the computer programming lesson ... it's that SIMPLE! No computer programming experience is needed and anyone can help us break the Guinness World Records. The online lesson has 10 tasks and each task will have a video with detailed instructions and an image to help you troubleshoot your task. If you need further assistance, a Zoom link is provided to a live assistance ... it's that SIMPLE!

COVID-19 Guidance for Holiday Travel and Gatherings
The holiday season will be different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To ensure families do not miss out on being together during the holidays, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has issued guidance on traveling and gathering safely. Read the full news release here.
We have a collective responsibility to help our students earn credits to graduate and become college and career ready, so let's utilize all of our resources, work collaboratively, and make the best of this remote environment until it is safe to return.
Covid Relief Funds
Oakland County and United Way for Southeastern Michigan recently announced the Oakland Together COVID Relief Microgrant Initiative. This initiative will provide nearly $2M in direct funding support to Oakland County residents struggling to make ends meet as the pandemic and its economic impacts continue. If you know of a person that we serve that could use this money, please make sure they complete the application. Only 4,000 of these $500 grants are available and they will go VERY fast.
The application process to request a microgrant is now open!
The financial consequences of COVID-19 have impacted the budget of many families. The Oakland County COVID Relief Microgrant Initiative provides urgent relief with $500 cash grants. This flexible funding can be used immediately for household expenses.
Who's eligible?
- Residents of Oakland County
- 18 or older
- Income of $70,000 or lower in normal years (pre-COVID)
- One applicant per household
How can the $500 can be used?
- Paying Rent/Utilities Bills
- Prescriptions
- Medical Bills
- Food
- Basic household necessities
- Technology for virtual school/work i.e. laptops or even connectivity
- Any overdue bills
All applicants MUST be experiencing financial hardships brought on by COVID-19.

Saturday School Information
Southfield Public Schools' "High School Credit Recovery Program" is designed to give high school students, who have failed a class, the opportunity to retake a course and earn credits for coursework they need in order to graduate. The classes for this extended learning opportunity are held online.

Meal Distribution Schedule Changes
FREE Virtual Homework and Tutoring Center
This year, students may sign up for our FREE Virtual Homework and Tutoring Center even if they select not to attend our daily Virtual C2 Pipeline Enrichments. We would like them to be encouraged to participate in daily Virtual Enrichments each week, which are interesting, educational, and most of all FUN, but it is not mandatory to attend the Virtual Homework and Tutoring Center.
Our daily program is Monday - Thursday from 3pm - 5pm . Our first 10 week session is as follows:
- MONDAY - CSI - Crime Scene Investigations
- TUESDAY - BUSINESS - Skills to pay the Bills
- WEDNESDAY - EXPLORE IT & DESIGN IT - Engineering
- THURSDAYS - STEPS to a Healthy Lifestyle - Nutrition, Exercise Challenges, and a cooking demo every week.
