Colt Corner
Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence
November 11, 2016
Dear Colt Parents,
In the past weeks we wrapped up some successful athletic seasons with Volleyball and Football. As a former Middle, Junior High, and High School coach, I can say that success is not only measured by wins and losses, but by the daily process in improving all around. Coaching and playing sports in secondary schools in Texas is very challenging when considering the long hours and preparation that goes into not only athletics, but also into the classroom. Our CMS coaches do an outstanding job in preparing our students for the challenges that they face daily as student-athletes while guiding them with valuable life lessons that they experience in middle school. Even if a student may not be involved in athletics or an extra curricular activity, I know first hand that it takes us all as parents and educators to help our students succeed daily. This past season is just another reminder of how together we can help make the CMS experience a great one for our students.
BEST,
David Arencibia, Ed.D.

GCISD students and staff are encouraged to wear purple on Thursday, November 17th to raise awareness and support of the 1000’s of people affected by pancreatic cancer. Both the cities of Grapevine and Colleyville are making the proclamation to recognize November 17, as World Pancreatic Cancer Day. In the battle against pancreatic cancer we will show the world we are #InItTogether to #WageHope.
NJHS Food Drive
Every year at CMS, the NJHS members host a GRACE food drive to help our neighbors in need. Our NJHS students ask that families participate in bringing canned foods, and drop them off in front of the Learning Commons (library) in the collection bins. There will be a competition between the different grade levels to bring the most cans, and the winning grade will get a fun advisory day outside or in the gym (pending weather) during an advisory period this semester.
6th graders: Please bring canned corn or canned sweet potatoes
7th graders: Please bring canned fruit or instant stuffing
8th graders: Please bring chicken broth/soup or box of Jell-O.
Please bring all cans by Tuesday, November 15th. For questions you can email christina.moy@gcisd.net and or lauren.smith@gcisd.net

On September 16 and September 19 we talked to 8th grade English classes about the Bobby Bragan Scholarship. Students complete an application and a 500-700 word handwritten essay that is submitted to the campus and blind copy judged by three judges. The top scoring male student and the top scoring female student have their applications and essays sent to Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation for the final judging. Applications and essays are due back to CMS 8th grade English teachers – Mrs. Smith, Mr. Woolley or Mrs. Lilley by November 15th at 3:25. Please contact the counseling apartment for further questions.
