Habit for May- Find Your Voice and Inspire Others!
Leadership Event and All School Picnic May 26th!
This will include a Leadership Event in the morning (3rd-5th is 10:00-11:00, and K-2 is 10:30-11:30 AM), with the picnic to follow for the grade levels and field day beginning at 1:00 PM.
ALL are invited to picnic with your students! You are asked to pre-pay ($3.70 for adults, $2.50 for additional-non-Lincoln children) for your lunch ticket so we can get an accurate count for how much food will need to be prepared.
It is always a fun day, so mark your calendars and plan to attend!
Fidgets, Fidgets, Fidgets!
That being said, the current fidget spinners do not meet the criteria to be a fidget, they DO make noise, and do not support or enhance student concentration. Therefore, we would like to continue with the support team and teachers providing the necessary fidgets for students needing them within the classroom. We have a large supply here at school. Teachers make these accommodations all the time for students, and we would love to continue to do this to ensure the appropriateness of the tool so that it benefits the learning. There will not be a need for fidgets to be supplied from home, these will be provided by the school for classroom use.

End of Year Information
At the end of each school year, medications will also be sent home. Please be sure to look for this as well.
Our lost and (not) found is growing! Please encourage your child to check these for any missing items.
We will be packing up each room and readying ourselves for construction to begin this summer. Next year, we will have some rooms in various locations until the additional classrooms are available. Please know, we are doing our very best to ensure minimal distractions from construction. Your students are top priority for us!
You will receive a summer mailing. Please note that our fee collection day, August 15, 2017 will be held at the HIGH SCHOOL due to construction. Times are 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM. You may come anytime during those hours!
Finally, we thank you for sharing your children with us and partnering to make Lincoln great! It takes all of us, positively working together, to help each child reach their potential. Thank you for all you do!

Safety, Safety, Safety!
Please be reminded that the traffic flow on the back parking lot is one way. PLEASE follow the line of cars to wait to pick up your child. I know it may seem faster to park by the fence (there is no parking there), or be waiting facing the opposite direction of cars so you can pull out first- but truly, it isn't safe for our students. Please be reminded that student safety has to be the overall goal for our school. From start to finish, all students are picked up by 3:12PM- that is only 12 minutes of your time to ensure the safety of all! Thanks for understanding and helping us teach our children to follow the rules, and help everyone be safe!

Happy February, 2017!
Thanks to everyone who came out to Winterfest! What a nice time we had dancing and enjoying food from many different families and cultures! Special thanks to coordinator Jen Kapfler, and all the FTP members who helped with this event! Special thanks also to our DJ, Mr. Haight!
Students continue to work hard practicing the seven habits! Our February habit is Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood. Each day the students are given an idea for practicing the habit! Have fun reinforcing and practicing this habit at home. One idea was to ask a member of your family to tell a story. After, see how well you could retell the story. Were you listening? We can all continue to work on these habits everyday!
Conferences are coming up. We look forward to meeting with each of you and sharing the great progress your child has made. If you can't make the scheduled time, please speak with your child's teacher. We strive to have 100% attendance as this open communication helps our students grow.

January, 2017 Leaders all around!
Thank you to all who attended parent teacher conferences, the Book Fair and Parent afternoon. We strive to have 100% attendance at conferences, and appreciate the collaboration times between home and school. We continue to focus on student growth. Our classrooms are filled with leaders, curiosity, engaged volunteers and dedicated staff all working toward optimizing student achievement!
As a school, we have been working on developing leadership skills in all aspects of our day. Specifically since of October, we have been working on a habit of the month. October we worked on BE PROACTIVE; we went over adult and student developed scenarios and ways we could handle situations better. November was BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND. We talked about setting goals for ourselves and working hard to achieve them. December, we discussed PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST, and this month, January, is THINK WIN-WIN! We have been asking students to think about their "big rocks" or priorities that we need to respect in our lives. Continue to ask your child(ren) about these habits and ways to utilize them at home!
Lincoln Students Vote for the City Bird!
The Whitewater Urban Forestry Commission approached Lincoln Elementary School to determine interest in participating in and voting for Whitewater’s Bird of the Year! The Student Leadership Team organized daily announcements with information about each bird for our students. Then, ballots were distributed and all students voted on the bird that would be the best to represent Whitewater this year!
There were six birds on ballot; the Throated Hummingbird, Black-Capped Chickadee, American Gold Finch, Baltimore Oriole, White-Breasted Nuthatch, and the Snowy Owl. The Snowy Owl was the pick!
Posters are now being hung around the town and our school to honor the bird. Special thanks to the Whitewater Urban Forestry Commission for allowing our students to partner on this project and show their leadership skills in our community!
