LEARNING ABOUT HEART RATE
Learning about Heart Rate
Pictured is a graph which is discussed with 5th and 6th grade students. Student learn how improved fitness effects the various heart rates. Students also learn how different intensities have different health benefits.
Students Figure their Heart Rate Zones
Pictured is a handout on which students will compute their maximum heart rate and then identify the heart rate ranges for the various heart rate zones.
Students use Heart Rate Monitors
Students wear a chest strap and a heart rate sensor. The heart rate sensor connects via Bluetooth to an Ipad and the students' heart rates are projected on a screen. Students are instructed to keep the box around their name green, red, or yellow during all activities.
Salem Ninja Kids Obstacle Courses
Grade K-4 have been completing various obstacle courses. The course include balance and strength elements.
ROPE SWING
Student must swing on a rope and land on the folding mat.
CARGO NET
Students must climb the cargo net to a designated height.
STEPPING STONES
Students must step from ball to ball and maintain balance.
TEETER TOTTER
Students must walk across the teeter tooter and step over the hurdle in the center while maintaining balance.
MONKEY BARS/CLIFF HANGER
Students must cross from one side or the other by either using the bars in the center or the boards anchored to the sides,
SKINNY BEAM
Students must walk across the beam (which is only 3 inches wide).
BALL HANG
Student must swing from one ball to the next to cross the designated distance.
THE WALL
Students must pull themselves up onto and over the wall.
UNDER/OVER STEP UP BALANCE BEAM
Students have to cross the beam ducking under the arch, stepping over the hurdle, and stepping up 2 different levels. All while maintaining their balance.
BASKETBALL
Students in grades 2-6 have been learning basketball skills.
