Message from the New Superintendent
Greetings Kirby 140 Family,
It is an honor and a privilege to formally introduce myself to the Kirby School District 140 community. My name is Dan Callaghan, and I am excited to begin the year as the new Superintendent of Schools.
I’ve served D140 students and families for the past nineteen years - seven years as an administrator and twelve years as a teacher. Most recently, I was the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and before that, the Principal of Bannes Elementary School. Born and raised in Tinley Park, I am a proud alumnus of Helen Keller Elementary School, Grissom Middle School, and Andrew High School. I am deeply rooted in this community and have dedicated my career to giving back to it.
My vision for KSD 140 is to develop and maintain an educational environment that optimizes opportunities for every student. This is done through respectful and collaborative working relationships with staff and community members; a strong, differentiated curriculum that prioritizes students; and sound financial planning and transparency. Fostering a safe climate and a culture of communication and trust are essential to a thriving District.
I also feel it’s important to share the classroom with the community. Highlighting staff and student accomplishments is vital. In addition to increased District communications, I will be personally sharing news, pictures, and videos on my social media accounts. Please follow me @DrCallaghan140 on TWITTER and @DrCallaghan140 on FACEBOOK.
In the upcoming days, your school principal will share important back-to-school information with you. Please be on the lookout for information about student classroom assignments/schedules, transportation information, school supply list reminders, and event updates.
Finally, I’d like to thank the D140 Board of Education for their confidence in me to serve as Superintendent of Schools. I’d also thank the many District 140 staff and community members that have reached out in support. I am grateful for your partnership. I am deeply invested in this community and pledge to lead with integrity and to continue building lasting relationships with all stakeholders. #KirbyONE40
Sincerely,
Dr. Daniel (Dan) Callaghan
Superintendent
Kirby School District 140
