Magazine & Cookie Dough Drive Kick Off
Today our Student Council Officers introduced themselves and lead the school in our first all-school assembly to kick off our Fall Magazine and Cookie Dough Drive. This is the only fundraiser that benefits Tamanend and is organized by our Student Council leaders. Over the years, monies raised from our drive have been used to purchase water bottle filling stations, hallway mirrors, tv’s for the cafeteria, a pencil vending machine for fun seasonal pencils, and general support of many student events and activities.
Students were given a packet of information to bring home that explains the due dates and incentives for the Drive. The following is a summary of those due dates and incentives:
Magazine & Cookie Dough Drive Important Dates:
- Monday, September 18 – Online “Quick Start”
- Wednesday, September 20th - Collection Day 1 (12 orders must be turned in by 9/20 to be eligible to attend the Eagle Experience field trip on 10/19)
- Wednesday, September 27 - Collection Day 2
- Cookie dough pick up date will be determined for a later date in early November
We thank our student council officers for their service and leadership. We will need parent/guardian volunteers on collection days. Please click here to volunteer (password: tms).

Get Ready to Come Back to School!
Parents and Guardians:
We have planned and eagerly await meeting you during Back to School Nights at Tamanend. Our 7th Grade BTSN is on September 19th. Our 8th and 9th Grade BTSN is on September 27th. We encourage parents to carpool. Parking on campus is limited to four areas: the main lot (outside the Main Entrance), the back of the school, the bus loop, and adjacent to our campus along Stuckert Road. Students will come home with a BTSN brochure with their schedules. We will have National Junior Honor Society students to help parents find their way between classes. NJHS will also sell coffee and treats to raise money for the victims of the recent hurricanes in the South. Our school store will be open, and on the 7th grade night, the YMCA will be present to share information about the free membership they offer to 7th graders.

September Boomerang Nominations!
is actively engaged in promoting a positive school community. Anyone can nominate a Tamanend student. Parents/Guardians, grandparents, neighbors, siblings, friends... the more students nominated, the more there is to celebrate! Please click here to submit your nomination. Nominations are due Monday, September 25th.
Who Wants to be Linked in Unity?!
Throughout the year, and especially in Tiger's Eye, we support our students as they learn to find their voice and "stand up" for themselves and others. Once our students leave Tamanend and go on to CB South High School, building student advocacy is continued and broadened through a program called "First LINK." As a part of LINK's service outreach, those South students work with our Tamanend students to foster community building and servant leadership. We call this "Link to Unity" or L2U for short.
We will have our first L2U on Saturday, November 11th for all interested 8th and 9th graders who have not been linked before. To receive an invitation to L2U, students (or parents, guardians, teachers) need to fill out a quick nomination form. We will send invitations based on nominations in late October. That means we need nominations by October 20. Students who return the signed permission form first will be the ones who are admitted to L2U.
L2U starts at 8:30 and ends at 11 a.m. Being that it is an action and learning packed two-and-a half hours, students must commit to attending the entire session (no leaving early). Participation is free and student participants get a L2U t-shirt at the end.

A Few Friendly Reminders
This coming Monday, we will go over the following reminders on our Tamanend Today Show. We ask that parents/guardians please review these with your student at home. Thank you for your support.
Staying After School: We love when students get involved and stay after school for clubs, events or sports. However, if not directly involved in a club, event or sport, students must leave the Tamanend campus by 3 p.m. Even when staying after school to decorate a friends locker for a birthday, for safety and security reasons, students must be finished and leave the building by 3 p.m. Thank you for your support in keeping everyone safe.
Safe Walking or Biking Home: Any student who lives beyond Bristol Road, and any student who lives on or beyond Kelly Road, is a bus rider. We should never see a student walk or ride a bike across or on Bristol Road, or along Kelly Road. Please reinforce this with your students at home. Thank you.
Morning Traffic
It seems that on some days there is more traffic coming to Tamanend than on others. Throughout the year, additional students become car riders for different reasons such as weather, projects, sports, etc. It is important to note that the more people who drive to school, the more we create our own traffic which presents a challenge for all of us, including our staff, to arrive to school on time. Please allow your student to ride the bus if they are a regular bus rider. For special circumstances, a good compromise that won't cause traffic and lateness to work/school is to drive your student to their assigned bus stop.
We also have the following car rider directions to help us to use our parking lot more efficiently. Please note that all parents/guardians should pull all the way up to where the sidewalk stops before letting student out of the car. Students should get out of the car as soon as they are stopped along the sidewalk. Once students have left the car, parents/guardians can carefully exit using any of the parking aisles being careful to stop at the end for incoming staff traffic.
Everyone's cooperation will help alleviate traffic congestion on Stuckert Road. Thank you!
Tamanend Parent Council
Parent Council is an open meeting where all parents are welcome to attend to learn more about Tamanend Middle School. Parent Council typically meets on the third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. There is no obligation to attend all Parent Councils and there are no elected positions. Parent Council is a forum for parents and school leaders to learn from and with each other, together.
At this month's Parent Council, we will give an overview of Tamanend and talk about topics of parent interest for Parent Council meetings throughout the year.
