Keeping our T.S. Cooley Community Healthy
Commonly Asked Question - Why does T.S. Cooley have so many fundraisers?
The answer is money! T.S. Cooley does not get extra funding from the federal government for our program because our students do not fall into any of the disadvantaged or poor performance categories that provide additional financial assistance to schools. T.S. Cooley has always had to raise funds for what it needed or wanted. The fences and the original security cameras were put in place by funds raised by PTO.
Maybe you are wondering how the money the school raises is spent. T.S. Cooley pays for our own copy machines, their maintenance and the toner to run copies for student work. We purchase our own printers and ink, unscheduled upgrades in technology, (new Promethium boards for each classroom are currently on our shopping list) and software such the French learning program Linguascope. We purchase additional PE equipment, library books, student planners, materials for school wide projects, awards, certificates and numerous other items. The money that is raised is always spent with the students' needs in mind.
This year the PTO has selected one large cookie dough fundraiser for this month, because many parents/grandparents have indicated this is something they like. We have also added some family food nights and other food fundraisers, because sometimes it is great not having to cook! We appreciate all you are able to do to support the program at T.S. Cooley.

SWLA Virtual Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Contest
Virtual Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Contest – Call for Entries!
Visit Lake Charles (VLC) invites everyone to jump into the Mardi Gras spirit with the 14th Annual Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Contest. The shoebox float contest will be completely virtual and promoted on the VLC Facebook page. Contest entries must be submitted no later than midnight on Monday, Jan. 31.
The only rule is that shoebox floats must be constructed using a single, traditional cardboard shoebox. Themes for shoebox entries can run the gamut from culinary creations to Louisiana’s wildlife, athletics, folklore, and more. Shoebox creators are only limited by their imagination!
“Mardi Gras is one of the most innovative moments in Louisiana every year on a cultural level. Visit Lake Charles is inviting everyone, whether they live in Southwest Louisiana or not, to participate in the virtual Mardi Gras Float Contest to celebrate the season and encourage awareness of Mardi Gras events in Southwest Louisiana,” said Angie Manning, Communications Director of Visit Lake Charles.
Contest entries will be on display, with online voting taking place at Facebook.com/LakeCharlesCVB from Tuesday, Feb. 1, ending at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 22. Winners will be announced on Mardi Gras Day, Tuesday, March 1.
Prizes include certificates and king cakes for first, second, and third-place winners with cash prizes for first place at $50 and $25 for second place.
