March: The Month of Spring
Dear Eatonville Community,
March: the month of green. Greening of the grass, much to the dismay of those who mow lawns. Greening of the branches and peeks of crocuses and daffodils. The sound of geese and ducks across the sky. But the most favorite for me as a girl was the arrival of the Spring Peepers. Now city folks may not know what this event is, but those of us from the country, from moist wetlands understand only too well. To hear the frogs cacophony in the night, is a song of renewal. The frogs sing of hope, of life and of renewal.
Whether it is the temperature or the longer light of day, the frogs know to sing to each other. To call to each other. The Harrumph of millions of frogs at the same time is a thing to behold.
This last weekend, we hosted, with Kirk’s Pharmacy the second dose clinic for the over 1,000 participants. The joy was palpable in the gym as they hooted and hollered after the last of two shots. They yelled, “Cabo or Arizona here we come! “ and “Now I can see my grandchildren so far away in two weeks”! The importance of this event was no lost on me or the other volunteers as we helped many, many elderly people through the gym and back to their cars. The gifts they brought: from 100 lunches for all the volunteers donated by the owner of Pico De Gallo, to the chocolate, cookies, notes and donuts were their way of saying thank you. So much joy and grateful hearts for Kirk’s Pharmacy, the medical professionals and many volunteers who made this happen.
I have a secret for them, all of them though...It was such a joy for us to see them again. To have the connection of life and the end of a dark time. To see in their eyes a sense of hope, of renewal and of laughter. My own parents are on the road of two dose recovery, due to kind people in their own communities.
May this be the start of the March season, with its time of renewal. May we come together as a mass to be kind, to have hope and a sense of renewal this season. May we see the light return in the form of sunshine and health, of family and wellness and of family and love.
March is the season of leprechauns and luck, of turning the corner of Winter and springing forward. The only unexpected part of my weekend was the absence of my friend Knut from last month, who may have been in the car section or got his shot elsewhere. I know he is smiling and ready to embrace the health of 2021! That Viking is set out to sail into healthy water.
I know that our families are ready to Spring into Learning...with safety measures and protocols in place.
Wear green, wear a smile and have a blessed month!
The best is yet to come!!
Gratefully,
Krestin Bahr

Daffodil Princess Sponsorship
We've received inquiries regarding the, "Sponsor a Princess" program. Due to COVID, our fundraisers were canceled last year, as well as our biggest event - the Grand Floral Parade.
To make up for short falls, we are fundraising with this new method. Sponsors can select items like earrings for $10, or gloves for $17, all the way up to an entire outfit for $509. You can personalize this donation by typing in a message to your princess upon checkout, if you have one in particular you wish to support. We are handwriting cards with your message and delivering it to the princesses. Please click the button below the graphic to donate.
Congratulations to Angelina Mireles-Mazza selected as the Eatonville High School Daffodil Princess. Angelina also serves as a student representative to the School Board. She is serving her second year in that position.
