Moby Max - Online Educational Program
Parents, please be aware that Yarbrough Elementary utilizes the Moby Max educational program to enrich and provide interventions for each student. This site is also accessible at home. The URL address is www.mobymax.xom/signin . If your child does not know their user name or log in, please contact your child’s teacher or Heather Taylor at hwtaylor@auburnschools.org for this information. Moby Max has a myriad of lessons in subjects such as reading, math, social studies, vocabulary, and science. The students think the best part of the program is the game time they may earn for minutes spent using the program and answering questions correctly.

PTO Seeking Sponsors for Royal Run
Yarbrough and Richland Elementary Schools are working together again this year to get community sponsors. By joining forces, businesses are able to gain cost effective marketing and advertising to the important and growing neighborhoods in our district. We truly appreciate your support as our fall fundraisers are pivotal for each PTO.
If you or your business are interested in sponsoring the Yarbrough Royal Run and the Richland Fun(d) Run, please follow the link for more information.
Notes from Nurse Julia
Please mark your calendars for these events:
October 27th – Vision Research Corporation eye screening for 4th graders
Vision Research Corporation will be providing vision screening services for all 4th graders. Forms will be sent home with your student at a future date. You will be able to opt out of the screening when you return the form.
November 4th – Health Hero Flu vaccine clinic
The flu vaccine will be offered to students with private insurance or Medicaid and qualifying uninsured students. There are no out of pocket expenses or deductibles and student participation is voluntary. Forms will be sent home with your student at a future date. There will be no flu mist/nasal spray vaccine this year.
November 8th – UAB Scoliosis Screening for 5th graders
All 5th grade students will be screened for Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) as required by Alabama State law. The purpose of the screening is to recognize any deviation from normal so the need for treatment can be determined. The procedure is very simple. The screener will observe your child’s posture while standing and bending forward. Students should wear a loose fitting shirt that day that can be pulled up easily so their back can be seen. A fitted shirt or camisole can be worn under clothing. The screening will be done in a private location and boys and girls will be screened separately. If scoliosis is suspected, you will be notified to receive further evaluation from your private physician. If you do not wish for your child to be screened at school, please send a note to the school nurse indicating that your child will be screened by his/her primary physician.

Art Action with Mr. Daniel
Our third, fourth, and fifth grade art students are having an awesome time in Art with Mr. Daniel!
They're putting the finishing touches on:
"Welcome to My Mall Design!" The fourth graders are using their imagination and one-point perspective, to create their own personalized malls.
" Dessert in the Desert" The third graders are tapping into their creativity and developing a desert landscape that consists of items that you would normally have for dessert.
"My Own Dream Room!" The fifth graders are using the principles of perspective drawing and their imagination to design a dream room, according to a specific theme. (i.e. favorite sports team. superhero, patterns, favorite color scheme, etc.)
The Computer Lab Latest with Miss Ball
In the computer lab, students are working on keyboarding skills. Each student will color their individual keyboard and take it home to study it. It is important to know our keys and where they are located. There will be a keyboard quiz given the week of September 26th-30th for each class. You may go to abcya.com and click on your child’s appropriate grade, then click skills, and click on the keyboard challenge for extra practice. There will be class time given each week for students to practice their keyboarding skills.
Fitness Fun with Coach Smith
This month in PE, students will continue to work on Camo Fitness, and we will soon begin our Lifetime and Recreation Skills Unit.
Also, Fit Knights Homework Challenge will start in September and will run throughout the year. Students can complete 3 activities per week and return the calendar to school to become a “Fit Knight” and pick something out of the treasure box in PE for the month.
For extra cool prizes students/parents can complete 2 physical activities per month and post on Instagram @coachsmithyespe to become eligible for an end of the month drawing for other cool prizes.
