Hello Class of 2030 Deer Creek Families! Welcome to Deer Creek Intermediate School!
The main information we need from our incoming 6th graders is the elective courses they want to take at DCIS. This newsletter has all information linked as we hope this makes it easy for families to have everything in one place. We are asking for all students to complete the ELECTIVE ENROLLMENT Google Form by Monday, April 4th.
In addition, within the newsletter you can purchase a 2022-23 School Shirt, Chromebook Cover, Novel Set, and School Supplies.
Throughout the rest of the school year, I will send out reminders and any information needed to pass along for the 2022-2023 school year. We look forward to welcoming our new 6th graders for next year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
IT'S TIME TO PRE-ENROLL AND CHOOSE YOUR ELECTIVES FOR 6TH GRADE!
Step 1: Select your Electives - TODAY using the Google Form Below!
Step 2: 2022-2023 Online Registration for ALL Deer Creek Students Opened March 21st. All families must officially register their students for the upcoming school year.
Step 3: Proof of Residency -- July/Aug 2022: All Deer Creek families must submit proof that they reside in the school district in order to attend DC schools.

7th Grade Honors Math
How are students selected for honors math? (More Information coming soon along with the summer assignments )
This selection process begins between 5th and 6th grade based on students' performance in mathematics. Some students are extremely gifted in number sense, and their data reflects that a standard math class is not an appropriate match for their ability level. They are ready to move on to the next level of mathematics, and they have the natural ability to skip material that they have not been explicitly taught. Mathematics is a very skill-based, sequential subject area unlike the more holistic subject areas of Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Students in honors math are working successfully an entire year (or more) ahead of the standard math classes.
7th grade Math
Students will be placed by DCIS staff according to these prerequisites and you will be notified in August
*Current Math teacher recommendation
*Proficient Completion of Summer IXL Assignments
*ISIP Math Level 5
*5th grade year : 3 or greater on all standards
*Pass the 7th grade math placement exam with a 90%. (This test will be given the end of July or the first of August - look for an email this summer)
*Proficient Completion of Summer Assignments - These assignments will be open for any student who would like to try and get into the advanced 7th grade math class. Upon successful completion of the summer assignments the student will be required to take the 7th grade math placement entrance exam.
*Pass the 7th grade math placement entrance exam with a 90%. This test will be given on or around July 30th after completion of summer assignments.

In the military, “got your six” means “I’ve got your back.” The saying originated with World War I fighter pilots referencing the rear of an airplane as the six o’clock position. If you picture yourself at the center of a clock face, the area directly in front of you is twelve o’clock. Six o’clock is what lies behind you. On a battlefield, your “six” is the most vulnerable. So, when someone tells you that they’ve “got your six,” it means they’re watching your back.

Moving?
If we are moving out of the district this summer, do we need to participate in pre-enrollment?
If you are 100% sure that you are moving out of our district, then no, you do not need to complete any of the forms for pre-enrollment. However, please email edithlindgren@dcsok.org to notify us that you are not returning so that we can withdraw your child from our system after the last day of school in May and send records to your next school.
