MVR-III Memo on Learning
CIA & PD Newsletter for Meramec Valley R-III School District
Feb 15, 2017-21st Edition
Happy Valentine's Day to our Staff and Students!
Cook Appreciation Day at MVR-III is TODAY. Thank you for ensuring the "healthy" aspects of educating "The Whole Child" here at MVR-III.
MVR-III selected and invited to participate in the Missouri Model District project with DESE
Today, MVR-III was invited to an informational meeting to learn that the district was selected as one of 15 districts in Missouri to be given an invitation to participate in the new Missouri Model District demonstration phase. Thank you DESE for recognizing the great work that continues to happen here at MVR-III by our teachers, support staff, and students.
This opportunity will allow MVR-III to continue our growth efforts in teaching and learning and the Collaborative Grant goals which are aligned to our district CSIP plan. Kick off for this project will begin in May 2017 but will just feel like "the work we do anyway" to ensure positive teaching and learning outcomes for all students.
Thank you MVR-III Collaborative Grant sites (students and staff) for getting us recognized by all your hard work!!!
Coleman, Nike, Robertsville, Truman, Zitzman, MVMS, RB, Community School, and Early Childhood Center for all the work you do!!!...and PHS too!
Where did all 207 of our MVR-III 2016 PHS Graduates go?
Each year, high schools from across the state must conduct a 180 day follow-up survey to determine "where" the graduating class ended up in their college and/or career journey. The chart shows that our 180 day follow-up survey has the following students who made the following post-secondary choices:
82 students attending a 2 year college (2YR)
51 graduates attending a 4 year college (4YR)
42 graduates employed in a field related to their HS career pathway (EMP)
11 graduates who joined the military (MIL)
The great news is that 89.3% of our students go to college, military, or an employment option in their chosen field.
Any questions about the 180 day follow-up graduate information please contact a Professional School Counselor at PHS.

Ground Hog Day Job Shadowing by PHS Students
Since 1996, the beginning of February has marked an initiative called National Groundhog Job Shadow Day. This exciting learning opportunity is a joint effort of America's Promise - Alliance for Youth, Junior Achievement, and the U.S. Department of Labor in which students of participating schools are paired with a mentor from participating organizations, who they will "shadow" throughout the day, to experience how the skills they learn in the classroom can be applied in the real world
Recently, a group of students from PHS participated in this statewide job shadowing Day! Ms. Stacy Scoggin, the Work Experience Coordinator at PHS, worked with The University of Missouri Hook Center for Educational Renewal Pre-Employment Transition Service (Pre ETS) Program to sponsor a statewide job shadowing day. Schools and businesses were invited to provide job shadowing opportunities during the week of January 30th through February 3rd.
Thanks goes out to the following businesses: Washington Fire House, Mercy Hospital, and Ziglin Signs.
