Upcoming Due Dates
Classroom Happenings
ELA: Mrs. Camden
We had a good week back! Students were given Winter Break to complete their December reading. I had students complete book forms when we came back Monday. I will update these grades next week. We reviewed our Historical Fiction book club novels so we can get started on Literary Essays. Our Greek & Latin roots for the week were Ped/Pod meaning foot. Next week we have library and NWEA testing, so our week will be off a little.
Just a reminder, students are required to read two books each month for the rest of the school year. These books count as summative grades. Remind you child that they must fill out a completed book form for their reading to count. Completed book forms are in the classroom next to the pencil sharpener.
I will be placing a Scholastic book order on January 15th for anyone who submits an order online.
If you’d like to donate books to our classroom library, we have wish-lists on Scholastic and Amazon. Thanks!
Science: Mr. Vorel
This week in Science students jumped right back into our Chemistry unit. On Tuesday we completed a lab that demonstrated to students how the Law of Conservation of Mass applies to chemical and physical changes. The lab included an exciting chemical reaction that produced a beautiful color change.
Students were also given back their chemistry quiz that they took at the end of last semester. They will complete quiz corrections with any questions they missed. Once their thorough corrections have been made, their score will be updated and go into the gradebook.
Lastly, students began their study into acids and bases. This includes the acquisition of background knowledge and a lab. We will end the week with another lab where students will test close to 20 different substances to find if they are acidic, basic, or neutral.
Social Studies: Mr. McGinnis
This week in Social Studies, students received the Junior Achievement Field Trip Form (Feb.13th). Students will get a job and a family situation and in 4 hours they will have to create a budget and pay bills according to their life situation. It is worth the price of admission to see them try and figure out how to pay the bills.
WE NEED 20 VOLUNTEERS!
Goal is to have at least 75% of all forms into the office by Jan 22nd.
If a scholarship is needed contact us as soon as possible.
